JOB DESCRIPTION

Work Location
Vienna, Austria. Based on individual requirements and on a case-by-case consideration, internships can be virtual, with interns serving from their country of residence.
Expected duration
The internships are envisaged for a period of 6 months with various starting times throughout 2025. The first position has a starting date in January/February 2025. The internships are UNPAID and full-time; i.e. 5 days per week (40 hours). The selected interns will work under the supervision of a staff member in the team or project to which they are assigned.
Duties and Responsibilities
The internship positions are located in the Talent Development Team (TDT), Human Resources Management Service (HRMS), Division for Management (DM), United Nations Office at Vienna (UNOV)/United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). The Talent Development Team (TDT) is responsible for implementing the Organization’s learning and development policy at Headquarters and UNODC field offices, which emphasizes that staff development is an on-going process and a necessary investment for UNOV/UNODC to successfully achieve the UN mandates. In line with UN 2.0, the Talent Development Team (TDT) is responsible for the sourcing, coordination and implementation of learning and development activities related to the UNOV/UNODC Innovation Strategy 2021-2025 as well as support for various organizational and change management initiatives to support capacity-building in the 5 areas of the Quintet for Change (Behavioural Science, Digital Transformation, Data, Innovation, and Strategic Foresight). The interns will take on a supportive role on the team and duties may include: • Research, analysis and summary of academic literature concerning innovation, new ways of working, and new technologies; • Provide support to identify initiatives or trends on new technologies, new ways of working and organizational agility within the UN system and society at-large; • Assist with the organization of workshops, expert group meetings, and forums to promote and foster innovation; • Support the implementation of TDT’s overall portfolio including through responding proactively to client queries, support for developing presentations and other communication materials, and/or updating websites and databases; • Assist with exploring and piloting internal process improvement projects including related to automation; • Participate in relevant meetings, prepares minutes and help to coordinate follow-up activities; • Perform other duties to support the team as needed.
Qualifications/special skills
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: • Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); or (c) have recently graduated with a university degree (as defined above) (OFFICIAL WRITTEN PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY SUPPORTING ONE OF THE ABOVE POSSIBILITIES MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION); • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views; • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; • Be computer literate in standard software applications, including MS Office 365 (MS Word, OneDrive, SharePoint, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, MS Forms, etc.); • For these particular positions, studies in the field of Business Administration, Economics, Social Sciences, or other related degrees would be desirable. Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
