Established in 2015, UNICEF’s Global Shared Services Centre (GSSC) provides services to UNICEF offices across the world in the areas of Finance, Master Data Management, Human Resources Administration, Payroll, and Customer Care (IT Global Help Desk).

GSSC offers opportunities for talented students and recent graduates to gain professional experience and greater familiarity with UNICEF’s core values while being exposed to the work of UNICEF and GSSC.

At the same time, GSSC benefits from the academic knowledge and valuable skills that the interns bring to the organization. Interns are mostly engaged in roles that provide developmental opportunities to them and at the same time increase GSSC`s capacity for research, analysis, development of tools and project work. GSSC does not engage interns for regular processing, administrative and operational work, which should be covered by regular staff members.

This internship will support the Finance and Master Data Management processes at the Global Shared Services Centre. Interns will have the opportunity to learn about the various business process performed as well as about UNICEF’s mission and programs, how it operates globally, while being exposed to working in an international environment. This role will further develop analytical and transactional skills while allowing participation in project work and providing support to senior colleagues. Interns will also perform ad hoc administrative tasks, analysis, coordination and support functions of the overall Finance and MDM team.

Summary of Key functions/accountabilities:

  • Utilize related software to run reports and queries for various monthly processes
  • Assist with HR administration, recruitment and interview scheduling
  • Support the HR resource analysis and leave reporting of the Finance section
  • Assist with data collection, entry and maintaining standard monthly reports
  • Support communications with meeting arrangements, develop presentations
  • Support the finance teams with report formatting, data analysis and transaction testing
  • Assist with closure of Sharepoint errors and linking of documents
  • Other adhoc support activities

To qualify as an advocate for every child, you will have…

  • Current or recent (up to 2 years) enrollment in a university programme in Finance, HR, Business Administration, Public Administration, Economics or other related area
  • Ability to work at least 30 hours per week. Third-country nationals holding a residence permit for the purpose of studies may engage in any occupational activity during their term-time for maximum thirty hours weekly, and outside their term-time for a maximum period of ninety days or sixty-six working days in a year.
  • Very good analytical skills and ability to synthesize concepts and material into clear and concise thoughts
  • Organize and manage information to achieve defined goals and optimum results
  • Effective presentation of thoughts and ideas including complex technical concepts, in a clear, concise, and readily understood manner, both verbally and in writing.
  • Work effectively on multiple assignments simultaneously and adapt well to changing demands and circumstances
  • Ablity to work well in a team environment as well as independently
  • Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Fluency in English is required.

Contract Duration and Terms

  • Applicants must be nationals of Hungary or other EU/Schengen country OR in the possession of a valid long-term Hungarian student/work permits. Temporary and/or sponsored visas are not accepted. UNICEF shall not accept responsibility or liability to act as a sponsor or to otherwise facilitate the issuance, maintenance, renewal, extension, or conversion of the candidate’s residency and/or work permit for employment with UNICEF.
  • Applicants must attach copy of their work permits to their application submissions (if applicable), otherwise their applications will not be considered during the selection process.
  • This internship is for a duration of 6 months with estimated start date of 2 December 2024.
  • Individuals must fund their travel and living expenses
  • Individuals must have proof of COVID vaccination record as well as medical insurance covering their time at the duty station
  • Individuals are personally responsible for obtaining any required visa or residence permit, covering the entire period of their internship
  • Internships are paid with a stipend of net HUF 362,133 per month for full-time arrangements (40hrs/week), which will be prorated in line with attendance for part-time interns (net HUF 2,105 hourly rate). Work arrangements are based on the effective regulations of the duty station, organizational needs and schedules of the interns
  • 40 hrs interns may take up to 2.5 days per month off work for any reason, including for medical reasons. The paid absence quota of part-time interns will be prorated. The stipend will be reduced for any absence beyond this quota
