CERN : Electrical Project Engineer – Tertiary Buildings (SCE-SAM-IN-2024-141-LD)

negotiable / YEAR Expires in 6 days

JOB DETAIL

Company Description

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world’s largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter – fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.

Job Description

Introduction

Are you a skilled Electrical Project Engineer with a passion for design, operation, and construction in electrical installations? Do you have experience with electrical distribution, automation, and systems tailored for large-scale tertiary buildings? If so, join CERN and bring your technical expertise to the world’s largest particle physics laboratory. CERN, take part!

You will join the Infrastructure Section (IN), within the Site Asset Management (SAM) Group, part of the Site and Civil Engineering (SCE) Department. This department oversees the operation, maintenance, design, tendering and execution of Electrical, HVAC and Sanitary installations for CERN tertiary buildings.

Functions

As an Electrical project engineer, you will:

  • Perform feasibility studies and detailed designs of electrical installations and energy supply systems, with a focus on tertiary buildings (office, mixed-use spaces,…), including safety, sustainability, and cost estimates for the proposed solutions.
  • Draw up technical specifications and documentation that will be used to adjudicate the workload to external contractors.
  • Manage the contract tendering and adjudication process for electrical installations in tertiary building projects.
  • Monitor and report on project progress, including issues, schedules, and costs, throughout the project phases until commissioning and formal operational hand-over.
  • Technically coordinate and supervise contractors in charge of the installation of electrical equipment and systems for tertiary buildings.
  • Support internal teams responsible for the operation and maintenance of existing electrical installations within tertiary buildings.

Qualifications

Master’s degree or equivalent relevant experience in electrical engineering, preferably with a specialization in electrical installations for tertiary buildings (commercial, office, hospitals, mixed-use spaces, etc.) or a related field.

Experience:

  • Extensive experience in electrical engineering, specifically with tertiary building projects.
  • Extensive experience in supervising and implementing electrical installations, networks, lighting solutions, and automation projects within building services.
  • Demonstrated experience in drawing up execution documentation and estimating costs for new tertiary buildings.
  • Hands-on experience in evaluating, proposing and costing electrical renovation and repair projects such as office spaces.
  • Strong background in applying technical standards relevant to building design and construction.

Technical competencies:

  • Construction, test and commissioning of electrical circuits and networks: including solar power systems, for electrical plants
  • Design and modelling of low-voltage electrical circuits and networks: such as general boards, inverter, UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply)
  • Configuration and use of information management systems: : building automation, BMS (Building management Systems).
  • Metrics and analytics: for the electrical activities.
  • Electrical load calculation for different types of equipment such as lighting, HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning).
