JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Description

Your responsibilities

The maintenance and development of the LHC geometry models in FLUKA, namely the ones of the experimental insertions, is essential not only for the accelerator operation and upgrade, but also for the support of approved and proposed experiments. In fact, those require an accurate characterization of expected signal, relevant background as well as radiation levels to be faced by the detector components, and on many occasions this implies the particle transport through the collider.

You will address the different requests regularly received from the various collaborations and, where applicable, will validate the simulations by means of comparisons with available data. Moreover, you will contribute to relevant improvements of the physics accuracy of the FLUKA code.

About us

At CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world’s largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter – fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature. Find out more on http://home.cern.
