This is a Fixed-term contract funded through the regular budget. The duration will be two years with the possibility of extension, unless specified in the vacancy notice.

The Secretariat of the WTO is seeking to fill a position of Project Manager/Technical Analyst in the Language Technology Section (LTS) of the Languages, Documentation and Information Management Division (LDIMD).

LTS is the technology arm of Language Services and a repository of the latest linguistic tools, technologies, and technical expertise. The Section comprises specialists in computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools, terminology databases, translation memories and other cutting-edge technologies such as speech-to-text conversion and neural machine translation used for specific client requests.

General Functions

Reporting to the Chief of the Language Technology Section, the incumbent is responsible for the following:

1. Act as a liaison among stakeholders to elicit, analyse, capture, and validate requirements for changes to language services and information systems.

2. Manage the implementation of processes and services, contributing to their smooth running within the section, and by engaging with all internal and external stakeholders.

3. Lead or contribute to change management and training activities related to the language services, in the context of the new Document Management System being developed inhouse.

4. Analyse and implement integrations of new tools with the language services and liaise with the IT Division as appropriate.

5. Develop effective working relationships with the translation and other language services workflow stakeholders to assist in the delivery of projects, ensuring business continuity.

6. Work closely with the Chief of Section to improve automations and translation processes flow.

7. Work closely with the LTS Chief and language services managers to gain stakeholders’ consensus on efficient integrations/automations, through an evaluation of the advantages/disadvantages of each solution.

8. Stand-in for the Chief of Section during absences, as required, and lead and motivate the project teams to deliver high-quality outputs.

9. Work closely with LTS team to support projects involving complex systems such as CAT tools, indexing tools or any other technology.

10. Contribute to outreach activities related to the Section’s work, including participating in the organization of workshops or conferences.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

Advanced university degree in engineering, computational linguistics, information management or a related field, is required.

Additional professional qualifications in project management, change management and risk analysis, preferably in language services/documents production, is desired.

Work Experience:

A minimum of three to five years of relevant professional experience, including demonstrated experience in language and document production workflows and following projects throughout their life cycle (analysis through implementation) is required.

Languages:

Excellent level of English, both spoken and written is required.

Working knowledge of French and/or Spanish is desired.

The initial fixed-term contract for positions up to grade 10 shall normally be two years, which shall be probationary, as per Administrative Memorandum No. 997 (OFFICE(23)/4) on Probation Policy. For Director positions, the Policy on evaluation of directors apply as per Administrative Memorandum No. 978 (OFFICE(17)/29).

The WTO may use various communication technologies such as video or teleconference for the assessment and evaluation of candidates. The recruitment process may also involve the use of various forms of testing, assessment centres, interviews and reference checks.
