An exciting opportunity to head up the NRC’s Regional Gender Adviser East and Southern Africa.

What we are looking for

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is seeking a highly qualified, experienced, and dynamic Regional Gender Adviser East and Southern Africa.

More About the Role.

The Gender Adviser will play an important role in advancing gender equality and inclusion within the NRC’s humanitarian programming. The Gender Adviser will provide technical guidance to NRC’s country programs, facilitating the integration of gender perspectives and gender-sensitive strategies across all stages of project development and implementation. This includes conducting gender analyses, developing gender action plans, that will be incorporated into the existing SIP action plans and commitments, and collaborating with teams to design gender-sensitive indicators and data collection methods.

 

What you will do

  • To provide advice, training, and recommendations on gender in the ESARO and respective COs of NRC. This will be focused on gender mainstreaming in programming, progress towards gender responsive and/or transformative programming and gender considerations internal to NRC.
  • To integrate a gender perspective (requires a gender analysis related to the sector of intervention) within all stages of the Project Cycle Management (PCM), with focus on the design phase following the various gender analysis.
  • To strengthen allocation of resources to NRC programmes through a gender lens.
  • To contribute to the revision of the existing guidance, tools around gender mainstreaming in the various NRC’s systems and programming (including key documents i.e strategy, M&E SOPs etc)
  • To identify opportunities to support and increase the inclusion of gender in NRC interventions.
  • To identify a broader set of gender and inclusion-related issues that can be investigated more deeply through further analysis.
  • To contribute to institutionalization of gender into the NRC ways of working at RO and CO level

  What you will bring

  • Minimum 7 years of professional, operational experience in a humanitarian setting
  • Experience in design and delivery of gender programming in humanitarian action (including transformative)
  • Excellent understanding of safe and inclusive programming / protection mainstreaming principles
  • Excellent understanding of humanitarian protection policy, standards and coordination, including protection from violence
  • Ability to think strategically and constructively and to apply gender technical skills in developing policy frameworks and guidelines to support institutionalization of gender sensitive programming.

Duty station: Nairobi – East and Southern Regional Office

Contract: 1 year

Travel:40%

Salary/benefits: Grade 9 on NRC’s  salary scale, with accompanying terms and conditions.
