TRANSLATOR (ENGLISH TO AFAAN OROMO)

INTRODUCTION TO GGGI

The Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) is a treaty-based international, inter-governmental organization dedicated to supporting and promoting strong, inclusive and sustainable economic growth in developing countries and emerging economies. To learn more please visit about GGGI web page.

Since 2010, the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) has supported Ethiopia’s green growth efforts, advancing the Climate Resilient Green Economy (CRGE) Strategy to address environmental challenges and promote sustainable development. A key initiative within this framework is the Climate Resilient Forest Landscape Restoration (CRFLR) program, which aims to restore degraded forest landscapes, increase agricultural productivity, and strengthen community resilience.

In collaboration with local stakeholders, the CRFLR program has developed Participatory Land Use Plans (PLUPs) for the Oromia and Sidama regions. These plans use a community-driven approach, engaging local experts and government representatives to address deforestation, soil erosion, and water scarcity, while proposing sustainable practices like agroforestry, climate-smart agriculture, and improved livestock management.

To ensure active community involvement, it is crucial that these plans are accessible to all stakeholders. Translating the PLUPs into Afaan Oromo and Sidaamu Afoo will empower community members who may not be fluent in the original language, enabling them to fully understand the plans, participate in decision-making, and contribute traditional knowledge. This inclusivity is expected to foster community ownership and build trust among project implementers, government bodies, and local stakeholders.

GGGI seeks to hire qualified translators to deliver the PLUPs documents in which are in English to Afaan Oromo, facilitating effective collaboration for sustainable land and resource management.
