Internal and external candidates will be considered for this vacancy. For the purposes of this vacancy, internal candidates are defined as staff members holding a regular, fixed-term or short-term graded or ungraded contract, including Junior Professional Officers (JPOs), staff on Special Leave Without Pay (SLWOP), and staff members on secondment/loan released by the Organization, unless otherwise specified in their contract. Staff members holding a regular, fixed-term or short-term graded contract will not retain their contract type if appointed to an ungraded position.
Context

Under the overall supervision of the Regional Crisis Coordinator in Amman and direct supervision of the Head of Operations and, in collaboration with relevant units the Senior IM and GIS Associate will be mainly responsible and accountable for developing GIS systems, data collection tools, databases and statistical reports and maps

  • Assist in the planning, coordination, implementation and monitoring of project activities.
  • Support in the design, development and maintenance of databases and data collection activities.
  • Support integrated mechanism for data gathering and information management across all activities to facilitate accurate, reliable and timely data collection, storage, and submission.
  • Monitoring of the data collection processes and the overall data management activities including encoding, storing, and transferring data to IOM’s data warehouse.
  • Perform processing and the analysis of the collected data and information.
  • Support the programme staff in developing data collection tools, databases and statistical reports and maps.
  • Support the programme team in the development of a GIS system to produce maps related to database elaborations.
  • Perform data analysis, data visualization and mapping in GIS based or in any other data visualization platforms.
  • Promote the use of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) mapping and ensure data collection has relevance to GIS coding.
  • Assist to providing user support, guidelines/training materials and training to program staff, and implementing partners concerned with capacity building programme components in the deployment, use, operation, and maintenance of databases and data collection systems.
  • Provides guidance/training and assist on IM tools to other staff in the unit.
  • Perform data entry when necessary.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
Education
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Management and related  engineering programmes or related fields from an accredited academic institution with four years of relevant professional experience.
  • OR high school degree/certificate with six years of relevant professional experience.
Accredited Universities are those listed in the UNESCO World Higher Education Database.
Experience
  • Experience in the management and coordination of information flows, data management including collection, storing, processing, and analyzing data to generate information products.
  • Knowledge of the latest technological developments in information technology and information system;
  • Prior work experience with international humanitarian organizations, non-government or government institutions/organization in a multi-cultural setting is an advantage.
  • Computer knowledge use including SQL database, Microsoft Office, QGIS, ArcGIS
Skills
  • Proven skills to analyze statistical information
  • Demonstrated information management skills and understanding of different data collection methodologies; and, knowledge of KoboCollect applications.

Languages
  • For this position, fluency in English and Arabic is required (oral and written).
