The Programme for Emerging and Re-emerging Infections under the Infectious Diseases Division conducts research across multiple projects. The Nipah Virus Research team collaborates with national and international partners to conduct nationwide surveillance, outbreak response, and several studies on Nipah virus epidemiology, transmission, prevention, and therapeutics. These efforts contribute significantly to global health security.
Position Description:
The Senior Research Officer will report to the Project Coordinator and will be mainly responsible for qualitative research, outbreak investigations and project coordination to attain study objectives within the guidelines of the research protocol and organizational values. The specific areas of responsibilities include:
- Participate in qualitative research activities related to emerging and re-emerging infections, including designing interview guidelines, conducting interviews, analyzing qualitative data and draft report preparation;
- Support outbreak investigation and response activities during Nipah virus and other infectious disease outbreaks;
- Collaborate with team members, Principal Investigators (PIs), Co-Principal Investigators (Co-PIs), and Co-Investigators (Co-Is) on various project tasks;
- Coordinate fieldwork activities, including liaising with local health authorities and community stakeholders;
- Collect, manage and analyze both qualitative and epidemiological data in accordance with research protocols;
- Ensure adherence to ethical standards and research guidelines in all phases of research project implementation and outbreak response;
- Verify the credibility and trustworthiness of data to ensure high-quality research standards;
- Perform baseline tracing to select collection sites, ensuring familiarity with surveillance workflows and proficiency in GIS tools such as ArcGIS or QGIS;
- Perform statistical analysis using Stata and qualitative data analysis using Atlas.ti;
- Regularly summarize and interpret collected data throughout the study;
- Ensure all committed deliverables within projected milestone;
- Prepare and track research budgets efficiently;
- Collaborate with the study team to develop high-quality research reports, presentations, peer-reviewed publications, and other project-related documents that synthesize qualitative and quantitative findings.
Required qualifications and experience:
- Master’s degree in Public Health/ Anthropology/ Social Sciences
- At least 5 years of relevant experience
- Candidates having experience in Nipah project with outbreak investigation and qualitative research methods (e.g., interviews, focus group discussions) will be considered as an added advantage.
Location: Mohakhali, Dhaka with frequent visits to field sites

Contract Type and Duration:
- Fixed Term Contract; duration will be 1 year with a possibility of extension subject to availability of funds and performance.
Salary & benefits:
- Annual Tk.9,09,360/- inclusive of house rent and conveyance allowances and other admissible benefits.
- 14.8% provident fund contribution, income tax paid by icddr,b, children allowance @Tk.1,917/- per child per month, festival bonus, contributory healthcare support including dependent spouse and children, group life insurance, and subsidized canteen. Transport and daycare facilities are subject to space availability.
