Your responsibilities
The Large Hadron Collider, CERN’s flagship accelerator, is undergoing a major upgrade known as High Luminosity LHC (HL-LHC), for which new high-field superconducting accelerator magnets are required.
As an early career Mechanical Engineer working in the Technology department (TE), Magnet Superconductors and Cryostats group (MSC), in the large magnet facility, you will join the team in charge of the construction of the new magnets and cold masses required for the HL-LHC upgrade.
The focus will be on the fabrication and analysis of the inner triplet (or low-β) quadrupole magnets (MQXF), based on Nb3Sn superconducting technology, with a conductor peak field of 11.3 T, the longest Nb3Sn accelerator magnets designed and manufactured up to now, with a magnetic length of 7.2 m.
The program has now entered the series production phase, during which 10 magnets will be built.
