Duties and Responsibilities
The Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) is a global intergovernmental treaty aimed at the conservation and sustainable use of migratory species and their habitats. Numerous additional intergovernmental instruments on migratory species conservation have been adopted under the broad umbrella of CMS which are supported by the CMS Secretariat. In addition, two regional agreements on migratory species adopted under CMS have their own Secretariats which are co-located with the CMS Secretariat in Bonn – the Agreement on the Conservation of African-Eurasian Migratory Waterbirds (AEWA) and the Agreement on the Conservation of European Populations of Bats (EUROBATS). The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations system’s designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional level. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. In the present context, UNEP provides the administrative functions for the CMS, AEWA and EUROBATS Secretariats. The Secretariat of the Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) is seeking a report writer to serve at 56th Meeting of the Standing Committee (StC56) taking place in Bonn, Germany from 25-27 March 2024. The report writer is needed to write an accurate summary of the meeting. A draft report shall be produced as soon as possible within the contract period and provided to the Secretariat for comments. Based on the comments received, the draft report shall be amended and submitted to the Secretariat for final approval. Specific tasks and responsibilities 1) Service the meeting with the purpose of taking notes of the debates and decisions taken. The Secretariat will provide the Report Writer with electronic copies of all the relevant documents, when they are available. 2) Produce a first draft of the report of the meeting using their own notes and audio recording, as available, from the meeting provided by the Secretariat. The report is expected to reflect the main elements of the discussions under each item of the Agenda, and include decisions taken. Guidance as regards to the format of the report and the level of detail required will be discussed and agreed between the consultant and the Secretariat before the meetings. The report so prepared will be submitted to the Secretariat for review/comments as soon as possible. 3) The Secretariat will provide the Report Writer, with comments, including compiled comments and edits from the meeting participants, for further editing. The resulting version will be submitted to the Secretariat for final approval. 4) Liaise closely with the Secretariat towards the production of a final approved report.
Qualifications/special skills
Postgraduate degree/ diploma is required Five years of experience in report writing in international environmental meetings is required. Experience in CMS Family meetings is desirable.

Fluency in English is required
