The IRC has been operating in Thailand since 1975 and currently assists displaced persons in Tak, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, and Mae Hong Son provinces

Job Overview/Summary:

Under the direct supervision of Senior Legal Officer, the Legal Service Officer support facilitation of legal and protection case management in Mae Hong Son Province. The legal Service Officer will implement the case action plan agreed from case worker and directly communicate with the client including provide translation support for legal and protection case management

Major Responsibilities:

  • Accompany client of legal/protection case management throughout the case management process.
  • Fill in data in the case management form to update the progress of legal/protection case management and timely report to the Senior Legal Officer and Deputy Coordinator for Community and Government Laison for any issue impacting the client.
  • Coordinate with law enforcement agencies and local service providers to support the client in legal/protection case management according to the case management action plan.
  • Coordinate and provide technical support to camp base assistance for assignments from Protection and Legal Program.
  • Work closely with the Senior Legal Officer to collect and maintain IRC’s case management database and filing system.
  • Provide translation and interpretation for case management process and activities of protection and empowerment Program.
  • Represent IRC for external coordination related to access to justice and protection issues.

Other Internal and/or external contacts:

Internal: Protection and Empowerment Program, Field Coordinators, Finance Departments, and Operations Department.
External: UNHCR, local authorities in Mae Hong Son Province

Job Requirements:

Education: High School Certificate and/or higher education level.

Work Experience:

At least 1 year experience in case management or relevant field.

Demonstrated Skills and Competencies:

  • Experience in management documentation, filing and essential database software.
  • Demonstrate knowledge in human right, basic Thai law and situation of displaced persons.
  • Able to travel regularly to the refugee camps and along the Thailand – Myanmar borders.
  • Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office.

Language Skills:

  • Demonstrate knowledge and skill in translating and interpreting Karen, Burmese, and Thai. Understanding technical terms on protection and access to justice is preferable.
  • Working knowledge of English is an advantage.

Working Environment:

This position will be based in office in Mae Hong Son with regular travel to refugee camps in Mae Hong Son and other places while providing legal and case management services. The travel to the Thailand – Myanmar border area as required.
