The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) is a global leader in the fight against illicit drugs and international crime, including corruption. It is a leading provider of specialized assistance to governments for addressing the legal, criminal justice and rule of law aspects to counter corruption, narcotics, crime prevention and terrorism. It operates in all regions of the world through an extensive network of field offices.
The UNODC Regional Office for Southeast Asia and the Pacific, based in Bangkok, is seeking to recruit an Administrative Assistant/Driver (FANGS) who will support the implementation of activities in Papua New Guinea under the Fairness and Accountability Now bilong Gutpla Sinduan (FANGS) Project funded by the United States of America. The FANGS Project seeks to provide technical assistance to the Government of Papua New Guinea to strengthen responses to transnational organized crime threats and to enhance justice and the rule of law, including by combating corruption, money laundering and other financial crime. In this connection, the FANGS Project seeks to more effectively progress the achievement of the Medium-Term Development Goals of Papua New Guinea, the PNG Vision 2050 and Sustainable Development Goals, for the benefit of all Papua New Guineans.
Duties and Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the UNODC Officer-in-Charge in Port Moresby, the Driver will provide reliable and secure driving services, proper use of vehicle, day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle, and availability of documents/supplies to UNODC staff and authorized personnel in the implementation of UNODC activities under the Fairness and Accountability Now bilong Gutpla Sinduan (FANGS) Project in Papua New Guinea.
Specific tasks to be performed by the Driver:
- Ensure provision of reliable and secure driving services by a) driving the office vehicle for the transport of authorized personnel and delivery and collection of mail, documents and other administrative tasks as required by the Project; and b) meeting official personnel and visitors at the airport, visa and customs formalities arrangement or otherwise when required;
- Ensure cost-savings through proper use of vehicle through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs (mileage, fuel consumption, travel routes), provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports;
- Ensure proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tires, brakes, car washing, etc;
- Assist in the organization of and logistical preparation for field trips, visiting missions, etc.;
- Assist in reviewing records related to in-country missions and field trips;
- Ensure availability of all the required documents/supplies including valid vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, necessary spare parts;
- Ensure that all instructions regulating safe driving behaviour and rules of the road are in hand and strictly followed;
- Ensure that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents;
- Provide support to project implementation through activities such as printing, copying, photography at project events, data entry.
- Support office management needs, including registry of incoming and outgoing documents and correspondence, liaison with office providers such as cleaners and maintenance workers, and liaison with security providers.
- Performing other duties as required.
Impact of Results
The delivery of quality driving service by driving safely and well maintenance of the vehicle. Effective support to project implementation through assisting with office management tasks and through providing printing, copying, photography and data entry. The Performance Indicators include: excellent driving skills; relations with colleagues and ability to be an effective team player; initiative; and communication and listening skills. The impact will be on accurate, safe and timely execution of services by the Project team and project delivery.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
- Secondary education with valid Papua New Guinea driver’s license. Successful candidate will need to provide certified judicial record.
Experience:
- At least 4 years of professional driving experience with a safe driving record is required;
- Knowledge of driving rules and regulations and technical skills in minor vehicle repair are required;
- Knowledge of local road conditions in Port Moresby is required;
- Experience in providing support to the implementation of projects through such activities as assisting with office management tasks or through providing printing, copying, photography and data entry, is required;
- Previous experience in the UN, Government or international organizations, Diplomatic Missions/Embassies, is desirable.
