Duties and Responsibilities
The Geneva Environment Network is a cooperative partnership of over 100 organizations or secretariats contributing to the global environmental agenda, based in the International Environment House and elsewhere in the Geneva area, including United Nations offices and programmes, local authorities and non-governmental organizations. Set up in 1999 and supported by the Switzerland, the Geneva Environment Network Secretariat, led by UNEP, actively promotes increased cooperation and networking between its members. The Geneva Environment Network Secretariat aims to promote access to the information resources of its members and outreach to the general public and to selected target groups in preparation of global environmental negotiations and conferences. The internship is located in the Geneva Environment Secretariat, and the intern will work under the direct supervision of the Geneva Environment Network Coordinator. The intern will contribute to the various conferences, weekly newsletter, social media networks and website of the Geneva Environment Network, and lead on the preparations of visits of students and country delegations. Tasks will include: • Assist in launching and developing activities and projects concerning Environmental Information and Public Awareness in support to environmental negotiations, by helping to organize outreach meetings and gathering of information and materials. • Assist the team in organizing hybrid meetings by over-seeing logistics, preparing invitations, summaries and other related material. • Assisting in management of the Geneva Environment Network digital and social media accounts, including Facebook, X, BlueSky, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Youtube; • Assist with calendar of events and the update of the website. • Assist the secretariat with day-to-day tasks, as required for the implementation of the work programme.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements: a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent); c. Have graduated with a university degree. Preferred area of study for this internship: Environment and communication or related fields. Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams, Canva. Applicants should have experience in drafting articles and/or social media posts. Knowledge of international Geneva or global environmental governance is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this internship, fluency in spoken and written English is required as well as knowledge of French.
