The Office of Communications (OCC) is responsible for both external and internal communications of the Organization. It aims at making FAO’s communications strategic, coherent, focused and impactful, while ensuring effectiveness and efficiency in communication-related operations.
The post is located in the Office of Communications (OCC) at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy, in the Digital and Multimedia Branch, OCCI.
Main Purpose
The Multimedia Producer performs a full range of support in video and multimedia production. He/she ensures the quality and consistency of the multimedia communications products.
Supervision Received/Exercised
The Multimedia Producer reports to the Communication Officer (Multimedia), Digital and Multimedia Branch (OCCI).
The incumbent operates independently, takes decisions on work priorities and exercises initiative for dealing with cases without precedents. Supervision received is focused on the quality of work output. He/she provides guidance and advice to other staff, as required.
Working Relationships
The Multimedia Producer works closely with a wide range of colleagues, with central units and external clients, performing and coordinating support services and providing technical coordination on the multimedia aspects for on-site events at FAO.
Key Functions/Results
• Carries out video filming and editing.
• Produces contextual videos that promote FAO’s mandate or specific projects for various platforms including broadcast television, social media and other digital platforms.
• Promotes the use of FAO multimedia products online and provides broadcasters with professionally scripted, impactful stories and FAO multimedia materials for distribution, ensuring alignment with international standards, formats, and systems.
• Liaises with other FAO Divisions/Offices/Centres and Decentralized Offices to ensure timely and relevant inputs into the development of FAO video and multimedia products.
• Supports the coordination of production of language versions and duplication of media information products.
• Responds to a variety of inquiries and information requests internally and externally from different regions; prepares related video materials and provides technical back-up on video post-production tasks.
• Researches and distributes b-roll on key topics as requested by UN colleagues and broadcast journalists.
• Operates and maintains production studios and Electronic News Gathering (ENG) video equipment to shoot and edit content related to the activities of the Organization, both at headquarters and in the field.
• Assists in production and transmission of live events to broadcasters or online platforms.
• Provides specialized production and delivery including filming, editing and versioning of content for FAO channels, platforms and teams for a variety of communications needs.
• Collaborates with digital editors and producers to create compelling multimedia stories and products.
• Assists with the distribution of audio and video materials to broadcasters, digital and social media platforms.
• Assists in managing the official FAO YouTube channel.
• Assists with the management of video collection management on FAO’s digital asset management system, the Digital Media Hub.
• Keeps abreast of and implements the latest filming techniques, technical equipment and editing software, music and stock footage and editing techniques including graphics.
• Undertakes international multimedia reporting missions as required.
• Performs other related duties as required.
Impact Of Work
The incumbent’s work impacts directly on the smooth and efficient running of the Office. He/she plays a lead role in the provision of technical video-related support services, for successful achievement of the Organizational unit’s mandate.

Minimum Requirements
Education: Secondary School Education.
Experience: Four years of experience in communications-related work, in particular operation and maintenance of video equipment.
Languages: Working knowledge (proficiency – level C) of English.
IT Skills:
• Very good knowledge of the MS Office applications, Adobe Premiere software, Internet, video-conferencing and office technology equipment.
• Expert understanding of transmission of video and audio from field and headquarters for broadcast and other usage.
• Basic understanding of networking of computers and servers to support multimedia production in studios.
Residency: General Service Staff are recruited locally. To be eligible for this position, candidates must be nationals of the country of the duty station or possess an existing visa/work permit and reside within commuting distance of the duty station at the time of the application. “Commuting distance” means the distance within which staff members can travel daily between their place of work and their residence.

Technical Skills
• Experience in video production and post-production, duplication techniques in all standards and formats; ability to set up professional shooting/lighting and editing environment; ability to troubleshoot technical problems on the spot as they relate to filming and editing video/audio equipment.
• Knowledge of mechanical and electronic operation of all ENG and studio audio and video equipment.
• Knowledge and experience in meeting post-production video requirements.
• Experience in video production including research, pitching, scripting, filming and digital video editing in a studio setting as well as in the field.
• Experience in producing content for broadcast media, digital and social media.
• Excellent knowledge of video editing using Adobe Premiere software.
• Experience working in an international and multicultural environment is desirable.
Desirable Qualifications And Skills
• Familiarity with and work experience in the UN and other international organizations.
• Familiarity with content databases and asset management systems.
• Familiarity with performance indicators for social media and digital platforms.
