BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT:
The World Food Programme (WFP) is the United Nations frontline agency fighting hunger. WFP reaches more than 80 million people every day – delivering food assistance in emergencies and working with smallholder farmers, communities and governments to improve nutrition and build resilience.
The mandate of the Office of Internal Audit (OIGA) is to provide the Executive Director, through the Inspector General, with independent and objective assurance, in addition to consulting services designed to improve WFP’s operations; and to help WFP accomplish its objectives by bringing a systematic, disciplined approach to evaluate and suggest improvements to the effectiveness of risk management, control and governance processes.
OIGA performs two primary types of reviews – audit and advisory services. OIGA reports are publicly disclosed, which benefit the auditee and other entities in and outside WFP. More information here:

OIGA is seeking to strengthen its profile both internally and externally and as such, requires a strong communications presence. Reporting to the Director, the Communications Officer (Graphic Design Focus) will contribute to developing communication products and outreach in line with OIGA Strategy.
The consultant will be involved in a wide range of communications initiatives, among those indicated below, and is expected to exercise a high degree of independence and be a self-starter on new initiatives. The Consultant will report to the Director of Internal Audit, and will work in close coordination with the Internal Audit Manager in charge of Communication and with the Communications, Advocacy and Marketing Division as needed.
ACCOUNTABILITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Work on an analysis of OIGA internal and external communication tools and channels for OIGAto highlight and showcase the diverse work of the function, results and insights, in line withOIGA Strategy, WFP’s corporate communications strategy and donor visibility requirements asnecessary.
2.Support in establishing OIGA quality stamp and visual identity in line with WFP corporate one,generating visually appealing products and visualising data and evidence in innovative andengaging ways: (i) work on the design and dissemination of OIGA Templates, enabling colleaguesto access and easily manipulate content and product types, convening sessions to support aconsistent use of template design and branding approach; (ii) lead on the graphic design andbranding for OIGA communications content and products; (iii) lead the design and timelydelivery of product and presentation material for special events, including posters, PPTs, slidedecks.
3.Prepare timely and accurate communications products – including multimedia items, articles,profiles, newsletters, reports, factsheets, presentations and videos as needed – that effectivelyconvey the desired message to targeted audience (Leadership Group, Oversight and Policy Committee, regional meetings, interaction with Country Directors, staff, donors, cross-functional working groups, etc.).
Support in the clearance of OIGA communications products, to ensure that any significant piecesof communications or materials produced are to a high standard, reflect well on the division,align with the overall communications strategy and comply with WFP standards and templates.
5.Work with OIGA Internal Audit Manager for Communication in coordinating OIGAcommunication channels and platform management: lead the production and updates of theOIGA information on WFPgo and wfp.org to ensure information is accurate and visuallyappealing, and present ideas for engagement to promote platform activity: WFP Communities,Yammer, newsletter/newsflash etc.
6.Support in monitoring internal and external communications and popular trends to incorporateinternal audit messaging into ongoing conversations as relevant, identifying key moments forproactive communications.
7.Recognize and assess the sensitivity of information obtained and respect the confidential natureof the work in the Office of Internal Audit.
DELIVERABLES AT THE END OF THE CONTRACT: An internal and external communications review and plan with clear deliverables A clearly recognisable WFP OIGA visual identity that falls within WFP’s corporate branding OIGA content well designed, uniformly branded and presented within agreed deadlines to high standards of quality and high levels of accuracy Developed/facilitated/updated webpages and presentations.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
Education:
University degree in design, communications, journalism or other relevant field.
Experience:
At least five years of professional experience in an international context, in the field of communications or graphic design.
Knowledge & Skills:
Strong conceptual thinking to develop new communication activities. Excellent analytical skills.
Strong written and visual communication skills: ability to produce high-quality written materials, including graphically-based presentations as well as text documents, and ability to condense and articulate long and complex information into visually and linguistically appealing summary form.
Knowledge of social media platforms, familiarity with web and content management systems.
Experience within a global organization and ability to interact with internal stakeholders and external audiences with maturity and tact. Experience in the humanitarian context and internal audit a plus.
Strong time management skills with an ability to plan ahead, anticipate requirements, problems and obstacles, and an ability to juggle competing priorities successfully, and to work to tight deadlines. Self-motivated and able to work with a high degree of autonomy.
Experience in creating and designing digital assets such as social media posts, blogs, graphics, audio podcasts and videos, a plus.
Languages:
Fluency (C) in oral and written English, knowledge of other UN languages a plus.
