Mission and objectives
The United Nations Volunteers (UNV) programme is the UN organization that contributes to peace and development through volunteerism worldwide. Volunteerism is a powerful means of engaging people in tackling development challenges, and it can transform the pace and nature of development. Volunteerism benefits both society at large and the individual volunteer by strengthening trust, solidarity and reciprocity among citizens, and by purposefully creating opportunities for participation. UNV contributes to peace and development by advocating for recognition of volunteers, working with partners to integrate volunteerism into development programming, and mobilizing an increasing number and diversity of volunteers, including experienced UN Volunteers, throughout the world. UNV embraces volunteerism as universal and inclusive, and recognizes volunteerism in its diversity as well as the values that sustain it: free will, commitment, engagement and solidarity.
Context
To continue its effort in providing up to date information and evidence of volunteerism in the region, VASS in coordination with the Regional Offices are collaborating to gather relevant evidence of knowledge products that offer data, insights, and analysis that could increase understanding about volunteerism including the enabling environment. The knowledge products will add on to the existing data available in the UNV Knowledge Portal (https://knowledge.unv.org/). In that regard, the VASS is seeking the support of Online Volunteers to carry the task on auditing the contents on the website to determine gathering evidence of knowledge products in all the 6 regions. At the end of the assignment, the online volunteers will be rewarded with certificate and will gain better understanding on the contribution of volunteerism to the SDGs. We are looking for Online Volunteers with strong interest in volunteerism and expertise in knowledge products evidence.
Task Description
The Online Volunteers will: – conduct content mining and research on various type of knowledge products (e.g.: Reports, Technical Papers, Guidance Materials, Findings, Think Pieces) on volunteerism in Asia and the Pacific (both in country-specific and regional level) and review them against the evidence criteria. – Collect the required information of the knowledge products that meet the criteria into the template. The knowledge product evidence criteria and the template for the collected evidence will be provided at the beginning of the assignment. The task will be split among the 7 selected online volunteers where: – 6 online volunteers will be assigned with specific Regions (approximately 6 regions each) to deliver the above task – 1 online volunteer will be assigned to research and gather evidence in global level. The country distribution will be adjusted if there were any countries found to have very limited evidence. Further guidance on the above tasks and workflow will be provided at the beginning of and during the assignment through call via Zoom/Microsoft Teams and emails, as needed.
