Danish Refugee Council, one of the world’s leading humanitarian NGOs, is currently looking for a highly qualified Protection Team Leader.

About the job
The Protection Team Lead will lead the design, implementation, and coordination of DRC’s protection activities in Jubaland, ensuring alignment with protection principles and best practices. This role involves managing a wide range of protection initiatives, fostering collaboration with stakeholders, and driving the integration of protection into all aspects of programming. The Team Lead will work closely with DRC staff, partners, and local stakeholders to enhance the impact and effectiveness of protection interventions in Somalia.
Responsibilities:

. Implementation and Coordination
• Lead the design, development, and implementation of protection activities, including GBV prevention and response, Child Protection, Mixed Migration, Protection Monitoring, Housing, Land and Property (HLP) issues, and Durable Solutions.
• Ensure mainstreaming of protection at all stages of project planning, implementation, and monitoring.
• Share updates and coordinate information with technical managers, partners and clusters regarding DRC’s protection interventions.
• Work closely with local authorities, community structures, and partners to facilitate sustainable durable solutions for PoCs.
• Conduct assessments to identify protection needs, risks, and gaps, focusing on issues like gender, age, GBV, child protection, and mixed migration.
• Develop and implement strategies to address identified gaps, reduce risks, and strengthen community capacities in collaboration with the program team.
• Represent DRC in inter-agency protection forums, ensuring DRC’s activities are effectively articulated and aligned with sectoral goals.
• Participate in inter-agency assessments to identify and address humanitarian needs in DRC’s operational areas.
• Advocate for protection concerns through direct engagement or coordination mechanisms.

Management and Leadership

• Supervise and provide performance feedback to the protection team, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
• Support the roll-out of the Protection Monitoring, including capacity building, data validations and dissemination of area based findings.
• Monitor protection activities/projects to ensure alignment with implementation plans and quality standards.
• Conduct field missions and interviews to assess protection conditions for IDPs, returnees, refugees, and other PoCs.
• Prepare and submit weekly, monthly, and quarterly reports, including detailed implementation plans, procurement plans, and budget breakdowns.
• Manage project budgets, monitor expenditures, and ensure compliance with DRC’s financial guidelines.
• Collaborate with Area and Program Managers on administrative tasks, including staff recruitment, financial management, security, and logistics.
• Monitor project outcomes and challenges, working with M&E officers to conduct field visits and provide timely updates.
• Develop mitigation strategies for potential challenges affecting project operations.
• Contribute to proposal development to ensure project continuity and innovation.

Collaboration and Reporting

• Share relevant updates with the Protection Information Management Officer for country-level protection reports.
• Ensure timely completion of the protection working group’s 4W matrix.
• Maintain strong relationships with local partners, government authorities, and humanitarian actors to enhance collaboration and effective implementation.

Other Duties
• Perform additional responsibilities as required by the line manager, technical Manager or Area Manager.

About you

To be successful in this role we expect you to have: Required

Experience , Education and technical competencies

• University degree, preferably in Social work, sociology, law, Human Rights, or related field.
• Post graduate qualification in the same field is desirable
• 3-5 years of experience in protection programming, including GBV, Child Protection, or Protection Monitoring.
• Experience working with vulnerable populations, such as refugees, IDPs, returnees and migrants, in displacement settings.
• Proven ability to manage teams, budgets, and multi-stakeholder coordination.
• Demonstrated experience in Program Cycle Management (PCM) and understanding of monitoring, evaluation, and accountability practices.
• Familiarity with Somalia’s legal framework and strong technical knowledge in protection and advocacy.
• Strong knowledge of protection principles, safeguarding practices, and durable solutions.
• Proficiency in designing and delivering training programs for staff and stakeholders.
• Excellent report and proposal writing, organizational, and leadership skills.
• Financial acumen, including budget development and expenditure monitoring.
• Ability to represent the organization effectively in meetings with local authorities and stakeholders.
• Strong communication, representation, and people-centered management skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and make sound decisions.

Contract length: 6 months with the possibility of extension, subject to funding.

Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish Refugee Council’s Terms of Employment for employees on national contract.
