Org. Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Office to the African Union (UNOAU) was created in 2010 to strengthen the United Nations’ interaction with the African Union. UNOAU is mandated to contribute to enhancing the partnership between the United Nations and the African Union in the area of peace and security, provide coordinated and consistent United Nations advice to the African Union on both long-term capacity-building and short-term operational support, and streamline the United Nations presence in Addis Ababa to be more cost-effective and efficient in delivering United Nations assistance to the African Union. UNOAU plays a key role in the implementation of the Joint UN-AU Framework for Enhanced Partnership in Peace and Security, signed by the United Nations Secretary-General and Chairperson of the African Union Commission on 19 April 2017. The position is located in the United Nations Office to the African Union (UNOAU) in Addis Ababa. The Information Analyst reports to the Deputy Head of Office / Director for Political Affairs.
Responsibilities
Manage (research, collect, coordinate and analyze) information as a basis for enhanced planning and decision-making by the Senior Leadership; • Maintain ongoing understanding of developments/events relevant for the implementation of the Office mandate through monitoring and collection of data/information from multiple sources, including: products and reports of UNOAU components; UNHQ materials; AU products and communications; information from UN country team, NGOs and other key stakeholders. • Contribute to the drafting of code cables, weekly and monthly situation reports, analytical products and briefing materials in coordination with relevant Office components; coordinate inputs to the UNOAU Weekly Report. • Identify potential research and analysis topics, and trends; and produce forecasts and analysis in coordination with Office components and subject-matter experts; • Offer analytical contributions to UNOAU Bulletin; • Maintain a system for classifying and storing information, and preserving institutional memory in collaboration with Office components and leadership; • Ensure appropriate follow-up and coordination with Office components to formulate responses, as appropriate, to matters requiring attention or intervention by Office leadership. • Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provides insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting. • Perform other duties and planning tasks as required.

Education
Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent degree) in political science, international relations, foreign affairs, law or related field is required. A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is desirable.

Work Experience
A minimum of five years of progressively responsible experience in information analysis, political science, international relations, journalism, development, security (military or police) or related field is required. Experience working in a Special Political Mission or Peacekeeping Mission is required. Experience in outreach, facilitation, analysis and political reporting is required. Prior experience dealing with African political affairs is required. Experience in research, information analysis and drafting of analytical products is required. Experience working with the African Union is desirable. Experience in data management is desirable. Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English (both oral and written) is required. Fluency in French is desirable. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is desirable. NOTE: “Fluency equals a rating of “fluent” in all four areas (read, write, speak, understand) and ” Knowledge of” equals a rating of ” confident” in two of the four areas.
