JOB DESCRIPTION

Job Summary:

The Nutrition Advisor will provide maternal, infant and young child nutrition (MIYCN) technical guidance, leadership and support in designing and implementing multisectoral nutrition activities for ELEVATE Nutrition Ghana. The Nutrition Advisor will provide technical assistance to national- and sub-national government actors to deliver equitable and quality multisectoral nutrition services that promote household resilience and food security, including support to program and policy design, planning, budgeting, and implementing. Additionally, the Nutrition Advisor will lead the design and implementation of ELEVATE Nutrition’s nutrition advocacy activities aimed at increasing prioritization, funding and disbursement for multisectoral nutrition activities and contribute to the design and implementation of the project’s research agenda and collaborating, learning and adapting (CLA) activities.

The Nutrition Advisor will report to the Deputy Chief of Party – Technical and will collaborate closely with technical team members in the ELEVATE Nutrition Ghana and headquarters offices. This position will be based in Tamale, Ghana.

Essential Job Functions:

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide MIYCN technical leadership and guidance in the design and implementation of ELEVATE Nutrition Ghana’s multisectoral nutrition activities.
  • Ensure integration of nutrition social and behavior change approaches and strategies in the design and implementation of multisectoral nutrition activities.
  • Provide technical assistance to sub-national governments for integrating multisectoral nutrition activities into their plans and budgets.
  • Support quality implementation of multisectoral nutrition activities at sub-national levels through technical support and capacity strengthening.
  • Support the development, revision, and dissemination of national nutrition-related policies, guidelines and protocols.
  • Lead nutrition advocacy initiatives aimed at the prioritization, funding and effective implementation of multisectoral nutrition activities.
  • Contribute to ELEVATE Nutrition Ghana’s CLA agenda, ensuring that MIYCN content is technically sound.
  • Lead and/or contribute to the design of training materials, job aids, tools and/or data collection instruments, ensuring that MIYCN content is technically sound.
  • Promote gender equality and social inclusion in the design and implementation of activities, guided by the ELEVATE Nutrition Gender Strategy.
  • Contribute to efforts to document and disseminate best practices, lessons learned, and success stories related to ELEVATE Ghana’s programming.
  • Contribute to annual work plans and quarterly and annual progress reports to USAID.
  • Collaborate with ELEVATE Nutrition home office technical advisors on technical activities to ensure alignment with ELEVATE Nutrition’s global processes and best practices.
  • Perform other duties as needed.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Master’s degree or international equivalent in Public Health, Nutrition, Social Sciences or related field.
  • At least 8 years of experience in nutrition, public health or related field for donor-funded projects, preferably within multisectoral and/or nutrition programs.
  • In-depth knowledge of MIYCN.
  • Relevant experience in providing MIYCN technical assistance to government entities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Keen attention to detail for ensuring data quality and accuracy.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
  • Willingness to travel within Ghana, especially the five northern regions.
