Job Description

Join our brand new Early Years Place in Maryborough, working as part of a dedicated team to maximise our impact on the lives of children and families. This is a community based, rights-focused, integrated model of support for families, that connects children and caregivers to quality early learning, health, and family programming.

54 reasons is Australia’s leading child rights organisation – no ordinary not-for-profit.

Proudly part of the Save the Children Australia Group and global movement, we’re here to make sure that everyone understands their rights. So that children and young people have their rights met and thrive, in all their diversity.

We champion the children, young people and families we work with. We are inspired by the curiosity and creativity of children and motivated by the love of those who care for them.

With the child’s voice at the centre, we provide quality services to children and their caregivers, advocating with them so that children develop, learn, and are connected, safe and confident. Our people are proudly local, reflective of the communities we serve – in every state and territory, and across regions, remote areas and capital cities.

A place to make a difference:

In these Family Support Specialist positions, you’ll play a vital role in our newly established Early Years Place. With programs delivered flexibly in the community, your role will focus on working directly with families of children aged 0-8. Reporting to our Team Leader, you’ll be based in Maryborough.

We have both part time permanent (4 days per week) and casual Family Support Specialist roles available.

You will make a difference by:

  • Working with team members to deliver family support programs and age-appropriate services, including playgroups, parenting workshops, therapeutic family support and case management
  • Promoting positive and culturally respectful approaches to parenting, and child and family wellbeing
  • Engaging with children and families who are not currently accessing support services and providing appropriate information and referrals
  • Collecting and recording data and information for accountability, evaluation, and reporting

A place to feel valued:

You’re an experienced and confident family support practitioner, with a passion for case work and the importance of early childhood development. You work from a strengths-based perspective, your interpersonal skills are excellent, and you will easily build relationships with families to encourage their participation in the EYP. Importantly, you’ll keep the values of 54 reasons at the forefront of your work and will always seek excellence in the services we provide to our families.

Bringing your best every day means having:

  • Demonstrated experience in working with children and families in the early years space – early childhood education and care, parenting activities, playgroup or other play-based learning and development activities
  • Demonstrated experience in using a strength-based approach when working with families
  • Ability to manage a number of key relationships and to work in collaboration with stakeholders
  • Degree or Diploma in Early Childhood or another relevant field, or significant relevant experience

A place to belong:

54 reasons is proudly part of Save the Children Australia. We are a learning organisation that invests in the development and wellbeing of our people. Our workforce is approximately 1100 people strong, and proudly diverse, whether in race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, sexuality, cultures and beliefs.

It takes all types of people to do the challenging work we do. We are diverse personalities, backgrounds and talents, embracing our differences as one strong and united team. We see and celebrate the unique value you bring to our organisation, and offer a range of rewards for your effort, including:

  • Award rate salary (Level 4.1 – $43.08 an hour for part time, $53.85 for casual) plus full salary packaging benefits for the part time roles (use this link to see how much this benefit could mean to you!)
  • Extra leave to use in a range of ways to ensure you’re able to perform at your optimum (N/A for the casual roles)

  • Support for workplace wellness, including access to our free, confidential Employee Wellbeing Program
  • Supportive Managers – for non-casual employees, we provide professional supervision training and monthly supervision sessions so you can feel supported and build a career at Save
