Duties and Responsibilities
Under the overall supervision of the Communications Officer, the Intern for Public Information and Political Affairs will assist the Office of the Assistant Secretary-General for Rule of Law communications teams by: • Monitor media in relevant countries and regions, identifying trends and assessing what is being published about OROLSI online • Support OROLSI external communications work with a focus on creating and posting content on social media • Assist with and independently create communication material such as graphics, videos, write articles, etc. • Support the drafting of notes, background papers, talking points, presentations and speeches for senior UN officials as they pertain to OROLSI mandated activities and priorities • Support the planning and implementation of meetings, events, policy review dialogues and training activities related to rule of law and security institutions • Performs other related duties as required.
Qualifications/special skills
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met: 1.Applicants at the time of application must meet one of the following requirements: (a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or, (b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s level or equivalent) 2. Field of study to be preferably in political science, history, international relations, law or a related field. • The field of study must be closely related to the type of internship you are applying for. • Proficient in standard word processing and software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint or similar; Be proficient in standard office automation equipment, scanner, printer, etc.). • Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the United Nations Charter. • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship.
