Company Description:
At CERN, the European Organisation for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world”s largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter – fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature.
Job Description:
Introduction
Are you a skilled and passionate Software Engineer? Are you ready to join CERN’s Controls Software and Services group where together with other software engineers, you can make a difference? Take an active role in the design and development of the control systems used by the CERN installation, operation and maintenance teams to model, manage, control and analyse the behaviour of the particle accelerators. Join CERN’s Controls Configuration, Settings and Automation (CSA) team and realise your potential. Take Part!
In our team, you will have a key role in developing and maintaining high-level control system software necessary to operate some of the world’s most complex machines, including the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Your primary responsibility will be designing and implementing distributed, modular applications in Java that form the backbone of the controls infrastructure used to operate CERN’s accelerators with precision and reliability.
You will work closely with other software engineers, accelerator operators, physicists and equipment specialists to translate operational requirements into robust software solutions. These will cover objectives such as coordinating sequences of beam operations, managing real-time data flows, enabling high-level automation of accelerator processes, monitoring critical technical infrastructure and alerting in case of anomalies. As such, the software you develop will have a direct impact on the safe and efficient operation of CERN’s scientific installations.
You will join:
Functions
