Job Overview: The IRCs after school program provides comprehensive support to ensure that newly arrived refugee youth succeed academically and socially. The After School Coordinator will lead the delivery of afterschool programming at a high school in Richmond Public Schools, providing immigrant youth with tools to successfully thrive in their new school and community. They report to the Youth Futures Coordinator and work with colleagues on the Youth Team to coordinate once a week service delivery.

Major Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Program Design and Delivery

  • Lead weekly classroom activities for the IRC after school program.
  • Implement and adapt curriculum to meet student needs in accordance with IRC’s Framework for Social Emotional Asset Development Toolkit as well as other research based SEL resources in response to student needs in the program.
  • Utilize interpretation services, conduct family outreach, and provide systems navigation and support to improve family’s connection to school and student(s) engagement in school.
  • Build and maintain good relationships with school personnel and work with school staff to
    conduct targeted student recruitment.

 

  • Collaborate with external partners, serving as a liaison between organizations.
  • Maintain regular communication with parents and help facilitate internal and external referrals.
  • Coordinate and lead monthly field trips, assist with communication to families.Administrative and General Support
    • Conduct accurate program tracking and case notes to ensure program compliance with its goals
      through required reporting to funders and internal stakeholders. Support student success by encouraging participation in school and extracurricular activities, finding resources as needed and connecting families.

 

  • Complete administrative duties, including but not limited to reporting, timesheets, and expense reports. Comply with all policies, procedures and protocols of the agency, placing importance on client confidentiality.
  • Other duties as assigned.Job Requirements:Education: Bachelor’s degree in education or social work or related field, masters preferred.Work Experience:
    • Minimum of 3-5 years related professional experience such as: teaching, tutoring, youth development or youth case management preferred.
    • In-depth knowledge of local education systems
    • Responsive Classrooms and/or Restorative Justice trained, highly desirable.
    • Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations, highly desirable.

    • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook); ability to use the internet and other digital tools for data entry, research, and problem-solving purposes.
    • Valid driver’s license and access to a personal, insured vehicle.

    Working Environment:

    • A combination of on campus delivery and ‘field’ time within the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.
    • Requires evening work.

    Compensation: (Pay Range: $24 – $25) Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
