Main purpose of job:

We are looking for a high-calibre individual to join the UK Government’s Department for Business & Trade based out of the British Deputy High Commission in Hyderabad. Your role will be to strengthen the UK-India cross border trade and investment relationships focusing on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) – Indian companies investing in the UK. With the recently signed India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA), this is an important time to contribute towards further growing the bilateral trade-investment outcomes.

You will contribute to the India inward investment team including:

  • Developing and delivering a strong pipeline of new and existing UK investment opportunities for Indian investors considering the UK as a global destination for their investment ambitions.
  • Account managing some existing Indian investors in the UK.
  • Refining and supporting the delivery of an investment strategy from certain priority sectors.
  • Coordinating with the Senior Management Team, India network and HQ on important visits.

As part of this role, you will be expected to maintain strong and proactive relationships with Indian businesses and stakeholders, encourage thought-leaders and key decision-makers in India to invest in the UK.
This role will involve conducting meetings on a regular basis and attending events. The jobholder should be a self-starter who is highly organised, can plan, self-manage and build productive relationships. You will also be required to support the wider BDHC network efforts across a range of corporate objectives. You will be supported with learning and development and opportunities to travel.

Roles and responsibilities / what will the jobholder be expected to achieve:

  • To promote the UK as the best investment destination for potential and existing Indian investors and to work with them to help them set up and further their operations in the UK. Ensure a healthy pipeline of future investment projects is developed. You will be responsible for delivery against some challenging targets (60%)
  • To support the senior management team in refreshing the investment strategy in certain priority sectors on an ongoing basis (20%)
  • To support Ministerial Visits /trade activities to maximize opportunities for investment contacts to meet visitors from the UK. This will include providing comprehensive and compelling briefing and updates about your accounts, and on occasion accompanying senior colleagues and VIP on their engagements (20%)

Essential qualifications, skills and experience

Essential on arrival:

  • Education Qualifications: Graduate/postgraduate (Candidates without the required educational qualifications but with exceptional practical work experience will be considered)
  • Minimum of 5 years of business development/ relevant work experience, including strategic account management of Indian businesses/ developing and maintaining a client network
  • A strong understanding of Foreign Direct Investment work
  • A track record of dealing with senior level decision makers in the business world with minimal supervision
  • The ability to multitask including manage multiple deadlines/ projects in parallel

Language Requirements:

Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

Desirable:

  • Strong research/ analytical skills – experience of searching and identifying potential customers

For British High Commission candidates, the Country Based Staff BHC Terms & Conditions will apply.

For other than BHC Candidates, salary will be all-inclusive of INR 125,179 per month plus 12% Provident Fund and 6% Superannuation.

Additionally, the BHC offers a great benefits package that includes annual domiciliary medical cover, plus a Group Hospitalisation Scheme with INR 500,000 floater cover for your immediate family which includes self, spouse/partner and children up to an age of 23 years and irrespective of age, only if with, physical or mental disability.

No relocation or any other related costs or assistance will be provided. FCDO does not pay for any travelling, accommodation & relocation expenses incurred and/or accept any financial risk, including cancellation or reschedule costs

Please note – BHC does not deduct tax at source and employees are required to ensure that any requirements of local income-tax law are complied with in full. Employees who are not liable to pay local income tax on their Mission salary, e.g., some non-local national staff and some spouses or partners of UK diplomatic staff, will have their salaries abated by an equivalent amount.
