The position coordinates a range of activities across the Climate Services (CS) Branch, and supports the integration of contributions across the Branch, Department and WMO in support of Member climate service delivery. Under the supervision and guidance of the Director, Climate Services (CS) Branch, the incumbent will perform the following duties:
(a) Coordinate workflows within the CS Branch and with other WMO units and departments to ensure smooth functioning of administrative and technical processes;
(b) Support coordination of activities related to budget and funding, including project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements, working with key funding agencies;
(c) Assist in the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes, projects, and workflows; monitor and analyse their development and implementation; review documents and reports; identify problems and issues and propose corrective actions; liaise with relevant parties; identify and track follow-up actions;
(d) Support deployment of experts and consultants, and initiate agreements with WMO Member NMHSs and partners to leverage their institutional and technical resources as needed;
(e) Support climate-related WMO governance, including Technical Commissions, Standing Committees, Expert Groups, Study Groups, private sector engagement, and consultative and other meetings, conferences. Help organise meetings, proposing agenda topics, identify participants, prepare documents and presentations, etc.;
(f) Contributes to the preparation of various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.;
(g) Supports WMO preparation and contribution to UNFCCC and COP;
(h) Participate in field missions, including provision of guidance to external consultants, government officials and other parties, and draft mission summaries;
(i) Contribute to the preparation of written outputs, including reports, publications, and background/briefing papers, and maintain the CS Branch website and SharePoint and websites directly under the responsibility of the CS Branch, such as the Global Framework for Climate Services;
(j) Undertake outreach activities, support training workshops, seminars, make presentations on assigned topics/activities;
(k) Carry out other relevant duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS | ||
Education Master’s degree or equivalent in business administration, management, international relations, economics or a related field. A first-level university degree, in combination with qualifying experience, may be accepted in lieu of an advanced degree. A degree in climate would be an advantage. |

Experience A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration or related area. International experience of the UN system, in particular experience within WMO bodies, is highly desirable. |

Other requirements Capacity to support development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of assigned programmes and workflows and to provide thorough, well reasoned written contributions, e.g., background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc. Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships, to promulgate coherent policies, and consistent adherence to these by clients. Capacity to efficiently use resources. Ability to work in a multicultural environment and to foster diversity and team spirit. |

Languages Excellent knowledge of English (both oral and written). Knowledge of other official languages of the Organization would be an advantage. (Note: The official languages of the Organization are Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish.) |
The Secretary-General may appoint a candidate at a grade below the advertised grade of the post, with the possibility of promotion to that grade within three years of appointment, subject to satisfactory appraisal of performance.Possibility of renewal subject to the availability of funds and pending satisfactory performance after an initial probationary period of one year which can be extended up to a maximum of two years.
