JOB DESCRIPTION

Organizational Setting

 

The Governing Bodies Servicing Division (CSG) houses the Secretariat of the Conference and the Council and supports all other Governing and Statutory Bodies of FAO. It provides corporate Language goods and services, as well as Protocol and Meetings services to the Organization.

 

The position is located in the Governing Bodies Servicing Division (CSG) at FAO headquarters in Rome, Italy.

 

Reporting Lines

 

The Deputy Director reports to the Director CSG.

 

Summary of Duties and Functions

 

Under the guidance of the Director CSG, the Deputy Director will support the Director in exercising overall management responsibility for the Division, including strategic vision, advice, planning and implementation of the Division’s programme of work, as well as the efficient management of its human and financial resources. In particular :

  •  

    Ensure effective, efficient and integrated delivery of Secretariat, Language, Meetings and Protocol services to the Organization and its Members;

  • Manage Conference and Council Secretariat responsibilities, and provides support to the secretariats of all other Governing Bodies and Statutory Bodies of FAO;
  • Liaise between the Organization and its Members, including through Official Correspondence and other communication platforms and instruments;
  • Manage interpretation and translation goods and services in the six languages of the Organization for meetings, as well as for corporate communication, technical and programmatic materials;
  • Leads programming and support for conduct of meetings of FAO Governing Bodies, Statutory Bodies, as well as other internal and external conferences and meetings;
  • Oversees protocol services to the Director-General and to FAO Members and their Permanent Representatives;
  • Performs  other duties as required. 

 

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

 

Minimum Requirements

  • Advanced University degree in Social Sciences, Political Sciences, International Law, Translation, Interpretation, International Relations or another field relevant to the work of FAO;
  • Minimum twelve years of relevant experience in conference management, governance activities, liaison with Members and external partners, and/or related responsibilities within the United Nations or similar intergovernmental entities;
  • Ability to lead and work effectively with a diverse team of people of different national and cultural backgrounds in an international setting;
  • Demonstrated experience in leading innovation, modernisation and digitalisation of processes, instruments and systems for international conferences and meetings;
  • Working knowledge of English and of one of the other FAO official languages (Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian or Spanish).
