Duties and Responsibilities
The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the United Nations system’s designated entity for addressing environmental issues at the global and regional levels. Its mandate is to coordinate the development of environmental policy consensus by keeping the global environment under review and bringing emerging issues to the attention of governments and the international community for action. United Nations Environment Ecosystems Division works with international and national partners, providing technical assistance and advisory services for the implementation of environmental policy, and strengthening the environmental management capacity of developing countries and countries with economies in transition. The Individual Contractor is expected to undertake the following tasks and responsibilities: 1- Screens and prioritizes all incoming MED POL correspondences, compiles relevant background documents and references, identifies issues requiring the MED POL Programme Management Officer’s attention, refers others to relevant officers and monitors and follows up on actions to be taken. 2- Assists in the monitoring and evaluation of programmes/projects/contracts. 3- Takes full responsibility for travels, appointments and other contacts of the MED POL Unit and ensures proper management of schedule. 4- Prepares briefing material for use in official visits and trips. 5- Prepares, maintains and updates files (electronic and paper) and internal databases and prepares statistical reports; keeps and regularly updates lists and contact details of Governments’ officials and other contact points related to the MED POL Programme. 6- Coordinates with editors and translators on finalization and publication of documents in different languages. 7- Performs secretarial/clerical duties by: a) Drafts correspondence and ensures follow-up; b) Proofreads in English and French; c) Translates incoming correspondence from/to English /French; 8- Organizes, follows up and services MED POL Meetings: a) Organizes and follows up on travel and hotel accommodation of participants; b) Services meetings and assist in the preparation of documents and reports in English and French; c) Arranges the preparation and dispatch of meetings’ minutes and reports. 9- Perform any other duties. The Individual Contractor will work under the direct supervision of the MED POL Programme Management Officers, and under the overall guidance of the UNEP/MAP Deputy Coordinator.
