Job Description

54 reasons is Australia’s leading child rights organisation – no ordinary not-for-profit.

Proudly part of the Save the Children Australia Group and global movement, we’re here to make sure that everyone understands their rights. So that children and young people have their rights met and thrive, in all their diversity.

We champion the children, young people and families we work with. We are inspired by the curiosity and creativity of children and motivated by the love of those who care for them.

With the child’s voice at the centre, we provide quality services to children and their caregivers, advocating with them so that children develop, learn, and are connected, safe and confident. Our people are proudly local, reflective of the communities we serve – in every state and territory, and across regions, remote areas and capital cities.

Where you come in:

In this part-time, permanent position (4.5 days/34.2 hours per week OR a 9-day fortnight, dependent on what suits you best), you’ll work with young people aged 12-18 years and their families, delivering a youth led outreach program with the aim of creating and supporting safety, belonging and wellbeing for young people and their families in engaging and creative ways in the Cessnock and Singleton LGA’s. As part of our Mobile Youth Outreach, Regional Youth Investment Program team, you’ll report to our 54 reasons Team Leader.

You will make an impact by:

  • Delivering youth-led arts and recreational activities to young people aged 12-18 years from a Mobile Youth Van, with a focus on wellbeing, mentoring in practical skills, career and education support
  • Building family capacity by using partnership, outcomes based, strengths’ perspective and client-centred approaches
  • Working with young people and families to identify where additional assistance and external services are required, and providing appropriate information, support and referrals

Does this sound like you?

You’re truly passionate about standing up for children and young people using your experience in trauma informed practice and strength-based approaches. Your background is ideally in Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Social Sciences or a similar field, and you enjoy being out in the community and thrive on meeting new people and building relationships. You have strong cultural knowledge which helps you to engage with families, and you’re creative and passionate about working with young people aged 12-18 years. Finally, you’re an independent self-starter who is happy to work remotely when not delivering programs.

This role requires:

  • Experience in designing and delivering innovative and creative youth-based programs in a paired facilitation model
  • A Diploma/Degree qualification in Social Work, Youth Work or a relevant field would be desirable, or significant relevant experience
  • Experience working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and Culturally and Linguistically Diverse communities
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to establish goals collaboratively with families
  • Experience in case management, data collection and record keeping, and strong case noting skills

We strongly encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander candidates to apply.

Working at 54 reasons is more than just a job.

54 Reasons is proudly part of Save the Children Australia. We are a learning organisation that invests in the development and wellbeing of our people. Our workforce is approximately 1100 people strong, and proudly diverse, whether in race, ethnicity, gender, age, disability, sexuality, cultures and beliefs.

Our people work from both home and office, with important moments held in-person to foster belonging and support professional development.
