Duties and Responsibilities
This internship is located in Division for Inclusive Social Development (DISD), Department of Economic and Social Affairs (DESA). The Division seeks to strengthen international cooperation for social development, particularly in the areas of poverty eradication, productive employment and decent work and the social inclusion of older persons, youth, family, persons with disabilities, indigenous peoples, and persons marginalized from society and development.

The intern works under the supervision of and reports to the Chief of the Programme on Disability Section in the Social Inclusion and Participation Branch (SIPB)/DISD.

The intern is expected to contribute to the section’s mandates and key work in advancing inclusive and sustainable development for all, with a focus on persons with disabilities. The intern will assist the section by:

– Providing support for the preparation and servicing of UN conferences, particularly the 17th session of the Conference of State Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (COSP17) in June 2024.
– Conducting reviews and drafting analytical materials, including a background note for the COSP17 roundtable discussion and a report by the Secretary-General on inclusive development for and with persons with disabilities in the context of the Sustainable Development and other documents.
– Researching documents, including legal and internet research.
– Compiling data and statistics.
– Attending and summarizing conferences and meetings.
– Assisting in public information and media activities.
– Preparing graphic design and audio/visual material.
– Supporting the drafting of speeches.

This internship is designed to be full-time and carried out in a hybrid manner (telecommuting within the duty station and in-person).
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
(a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
(b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent).
Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required.
Applicants must be a student in the final year of the first university degree (bachelor or equivalent), Master’s or Ph.D. Programme or equivalent, or have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or PH.D. Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
