Organizational Context

This position is available at Malawi Country Office, Lilongwe. Under the direct supervision of the Head of Supply Chain, the Supply Chain Officer shall provide support across the Supply Chain function, focused on project management and capacity strengthening for key stakeholders.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive)

1. Provide cross cutting support to Supply Chain function including expertise and guidance in areas including logistics, CBT/markets and retail, food systems, EPR, and engineering.
2. Oversee and supervise implementation of all engineering and construction activities to assure timeliness, and completion.
3. Support in the enhancement and/or establishment of humanitarian logistics hubs.
4. Support capacity strengthening initiatives, creating partnerships, and logistics support for Food Systems, CBT/Markets, EPR, and Health Supply Chain, including providing technical guidance and support to key government stakeholders.
5. Identify training needs and implement adequate logistics training for the CO staff and counterparts.
6. Supervise a team, providing practical advice and guidance, to ensure individual and team objectives are delivered to agreed standards and deadlines for all activities.
7. Monitor project timelines and provide project management support to ensure deliverables are on time, high quality, and completed with proper documentation and advanced planning.
8. Assess financial analyses and budget reviews, drawing out insights and recommending actions to senior staff to optimize use of available funds.
9. Contribute in preparation of Supply Chain workplans, review internal supply chain work flows and monitor progress and staff performance to assure consistence with organizational requirements.
10. Provide technical recommendations and guidance on specific supply chain internal processes and risks.

STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: University degree in Economics, Logistics and Supply Chain, Social Sciences, International Relations, or related field; or the equivalent combination of education.

Language: Verbal and written fluency in English and one other UN language

Experience:

  • At least five years of professional experience in an international context including: logistics and supply chain, coordination, and management working in an emergency context.
  • Previous experience in project management, Government engagement, and emergencies is important.
