Org. Setting and Reporting
This position is located in the Finance section, Financial Resource Management Service (FRMS), Division of Administrative Services (DoA), United Nations Office at Geneva. The incumbent will report to the Chief, Accounting operations Unit.
Within delegated authority, the Accounting Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

• Records and reviews grant master data in Umoja ERP for compliance with IPSAS, UN financial rules and procedures and donor agreements.
• Examines and records financial transactions of client offices relating to purchase orders, downpayments and expense reports.
• Reconciles more complex transactions in various currencies.
• Responds to queries from client offices and third parties.
• Assists in the processing of payments to governments, other UN agencies and vendors for good and services. This includes, amongst other things, calculating, inputting, and checking payments for validity, correctness and communicating discrepancies to supervisors.
• Assists with the collection and analysis of data relating to unapplied deposits and voluntary contribution receivables, as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making.
• Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.
• Performs other duties as may be required.

High school diploma or equivalent is required.
Job – Specific Qualification
Additional qualification in finance, administration or project management is desirable.

Work Experience
A minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in accounting, finance or related area is required. The minimum years of relevant experience is reduced to three (3) years for candidates who possess a first level university degree or higher.

Working experience with the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system such as SAP is desirable.

Working experience with Grants is desirable.

Experience with International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) is desirable.

Three (3) years of relevant experience in United Nations Common System or similar international organization is desirable.
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required and knowledge of French is desirable.
