The Regional Office for the Middle East and North Africa (RO-MENA), based in Abu Dhabi (UAE), oversees operations in the MENA region, managing regional initiatives and developing partnerships. GGGI is inviting applications for an internship position within the RO-MENA.

The GGGI internship program, also known as the “Grow Green” Program, offers a unique learning opportunity for students and recent graduates from diverse academic backgrounds. The program is designed for talented individuals skilled in areas relevant to GGGI’s operations, providing insight into the work of the Institute and offering training in a multicultural environment. The RO-MENA of GGGI is seeking talented and motivated individuals to provide support in several key areas, an ideal opportunity for those looking to gain valuable experience in research, analysis, and operational support related to (1) food security and systems transformation in the Africa and Middle East region, and (2) Resource mobilization across diverse programmatic solutions. The assignment will include, but is not limited to, the following tasks:

The assignment will include the following but not limited to:

  • Desk-Based Research:
      • Conduct in-depth research and analysis on various components of (a) the “Africa and Middle East SAFE” Initiative focusing on food security and food systems transformation, and (b) GGGI’s programmatic solutions relevant to the MENA region.
      • Review and synthesize publicly available primary and secondary information to produce comprehensive Brief Notes.
      • Support the development of technical papers, concept notes, proposals, and strategic engagement plans for governments and partners in the MENA region.
  • Synthesis of Regional Priorities:
      • Analyze and compile priorities of governments and institutions in the MENA region.
      • Assist in preparing policy-oriented summaries that align with the strategic objectives of SAFE Initiative and GGGI.
  • Operational Support:
      • Assist in the preparation and organization of meetings and events, including the drafting of minutes and summaries.
      • Provide support in drafting various documents related to the operations of RO-MENA.
      • Engage in additional tasks that align with the intern’s learning objectives and capabilities, contributing to broader operational goals.

The intern will work under the dual supervision of the Regional Director and the Principal Investments. The internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic, international environment, working on critical issues related to food security and sustainable development. The intern will have the chance to develop research and analytical skills, understand the functioning of an international organization, and gain insights into the operational aspects of GGGI.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants to the GGGI internship program must at the time of application meet the following requirements:

  • Be enrolled in a Bachelor’s (final year), Master’s or PhD program prior to internship assignment, or a recent graduate within the last 12 months.
  • Be engaged or recently engaged in academic study in a field directly related to the Institute’s work.
  • Must possess legal right to work in Abu Dhabi, UAE. For international applicants, a valid visa permitting work or internship in the UAE is required.
  • Proficiency in English is essential. Knowledge of Arabic or other regional languages is highly advantageous.
  • Applicants must be available to commit to the full duration of the internship as agreed upon with the supervising staff.

QUALIFICATION

  • University degree in a relevant field, preferably in international development, environmental studies, economics, political science, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct comprehensive research and synthesize complex information.
  • Demonstrated interest in sustainable development, environmental issues, or international affairs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Strong ability to work both independently and as part of a diverse team.

 

SELECTION PROCESS

  • Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
  • GGGI evaluates applications based on: eligibility requirements, relevance of academic study and work experience (if any); and the level of interest and motivation to contribute to development work.
  • Due to the high volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • Duration: The internship program is for at least four months and up to six months. Once selected, interns must begin their internship either prior to or within 12 months of graduation.
  • Stipend: GGGI interns receive a monthly stipend of USD $500 per month (unless agreed to be funded by sponsoring institutions). All costs related to travel, insurance, accommodation, and living expenses must be borne by either the interns themselves or sponsoring institutions.
  • Visa: GGGI will provide a supporting letter for visa. Interns will be responsible for obtaining and financing the necessary visas.
  • Travel: Intern will arrange and finance their travel to the internship location.
  • Medical Insurance: Interns must present proof of valid medical insurance to GGGI upon returning the signed internship contract.
  • Confidentiality: Interns must keep confidential all unpublished information obtained during the internship and may not publish any documents based on such information.
  • Academic Credit: Interns may get academic credit from their institution of higher education for the internship. Interns need to check with their university to confirm their academic credit policy for internships.
  • Working Hours: interns are expected to work during normal working hours. Leave should be pre-approved by the Intern Manager, and the latter should inform the Office of HR accordingly.
  • Learning Outcomes: before completion of the internship, Intern Managers are expected to review the learning outcomes with the intern.
  • Certificate: provided upon successful completion of the internship, upon request.
