Duties and Responsibilities
1. Background of the assignment: The United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) is a United Nations entity established in 1968 to support countries worldwide in preventing crime and facilitating criminal justice. UNICRI is mandated to assist intergovernmental, governmental and non-governmental organizations in formulating and implementing improved policies in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice. UNICRI’ s goals are: • to advance understanding of crime-related problems; • to foster just and efficient criminal justice systems; • to support the respect of international instruments and other standards; • to facilitate international law enforcement cooperation and judicial assistance. Integrated knowledge management through research and the dissemination of relevant information on crime prevention and criminal justice is one of UNICRI’s core objectives. This objective is reliant upon specialized training and education activities. In carrying out these objectives, UNICRI offers a series of post-graduate classes and short courses on topics that fall within the scope of its mandate. In 2023-2024, UNICRI is offering the first edition of the Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Cybercrime, Cybersecurity and International Law and the seventh edition of the Master of Lawa (LL.M) in Transnational Crime and Justice in collaboration with the University for Peace, located in Costa Rica. 2. Purpose of the assignment: Within the framework of the UNICRI Training Programme, the Fellow will assist the Programme Management Officer in the overall implementation of training activities and seminars. 3. Specific tasks to be performed by the Fellow: Under the supervision of the Programme Management Officer, the Fellow will perform the following activities: • Provide support in the implementation of the UNICRI training programmes and projects, including the LLM in Transnational Crime and Justice, the LLM in Cybercrime, Cybersecurity and International Law and related trainings by ensuring proper and smooth communication between students and teachers, collecting and analysing syllabi and training material from lecturers. • Provide assistance to students and lectures during the residential phase of the training activities; • Prepare evaluation questionnaires and reports, collect and analyse applications to the two LLM programmes, including providing advice to perspective students. • Keep files of applications and enrolled students for statistics purposes and analysis of the LLM outcomes: • Liaise with IT services stakeholders to ensure proper classroom management and to guarantee daily maintenance of e-learning platform; • Liaise with relevant stakeholders on project-related issues; • Perform other job-related duties upon request.
Qualifications/special skills
Advanced University degree (Master’s or equivalent) in the field of International Relations, Social Sciences, Humanities or equivalent disciplines is required. A first level university degree in a relevant field with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree. Previous experience with the United Nations and similar larger international organizations is desirable. Experience in the field of training and higher education is highly desirable. Work experience is not required for fellows with a Master’s degree.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another UN Language is desirable. Knowledge of Italian (host-country language) is also desirable.
