JOB DESCRIPTION

Trainee, Communications

Helsinki

The NORDIC INVESTMENT BANK (NIB) offers you the chance to do banking that makes a difference. The projects that we finance benefit the environment and improve productivity in the Nordic-Baltic region. We are an International Financial Institution owned by the eight Nordic and Baltic countries, and we offer you the possibility to work with experts from around the world. The challenges you will face working at NIB are unique and will provide you with valuable experiences. We value diversity and we are a close network of some 245 professionals located in the heart of Helsinki. The atmosphere is international and our official working language is English.

NIB’s Communications unit is seeking a TRAINEE to join its international team in Helsinki for the period May 2024 – July 2024.

It is also possible to start the employment earlier either as part-time or full-time. There will also be an option to continue on an hourly basis after the summer and again full-time during November 2024 – February 2025.

Your responsibilities would be to participate in a variety of communications tasks. These include assisting the communications unit in producing content for NIB’s media and public relations, as well as for internal purposes. You would also assist the team in event organising, and contribute to NIB’s media monitoring, publishing routines and administrative tasks.

We offer you an excellent opportunity to

• be part of a dedicated communications team;
• do hands-on communications work using different tools and methods;
• materialize your own ideas to support the unit’s work;
• get familiar with the best sustainability practices;
• learn how an international financial institution operates;
• interact closely with international stakeholders and colleagues;
• contribute to a prosperous and sustainable Nordic-Baltic region;
• experience vibrant Helsinki lifestyle.

Our current communications trainee David Rasmusson has this to say:

“As a trainee at NIB, you’re entrusted with meaningful responsibilities and tasks that significantly contribute to the department, creating visible impact across the Bank. The supportive culture of mentorship and the focus on continuous learning have greatly influenced my professional development. Working on various projects under the guidance of experienced colleagues has broadened my skillset and deepened my industry knowledge, making this experience a valuable stepping stone in building my professional confidence and growth.”

The successful candidate should:

• be a student majoring in communications, journalism or another relevant field;
• be fluent in English and have excellent writing skills; a fluent command of one or several languages of the Nordic and Baltic countries is considered a strong asset;
• be open-minded, flexible, have good interpersonal and organisational skills as well as a genuine interest in learning;
• be able to work independently;
• have some work experience in communication or journalism, and a knowledge of editorial processes would be an asset;
• have a creative mindset on how to use the social media.

Candidates with a knowledge of Nordic and Baltic languages are particularly encouraged to apply for this position.

NIB promotes diversity in recruitment. The Bank offers an international environment and competitive remuneration package. NIB helps international candidates with relocating and assists in finding suitable accommodation for the duration of the traineeship.
