Duties and Responsibilities
Background: The annual UN Country Results Reports are guided by the 2019 United Nations Sustainable Cooperation Framework Guidance. To help countries best illustrate the UN’s contribution to the advancement of the SDGs, these guidelines replace the previous UNDG One UN Country Results Report template from 2015. These guidelines are designed to assist UN Country Teams in producing higher quality and timelier Reports, with reduced transaction costs. The report’s primary audience is the government, CSO, development partners, and other stakeholders of the UN. The report uses existing country-specific data points in UNINFO, the IMS, and other platforms as relevant, that are kept up to date by the Resident Coordinator’s Office and the UNCT. The UNCT Country Results Report will inform other mandated reports at regional and global levels, including the annual report of the Chair of the UNSDG to the Economic and Social Council on the UN Development Coordination Office, which showcases the work of the Resident Coordinator system and the system-wide contribution to the advancement of the SDGs Duties and Responsibilities: Under the UN Resident Coordinator’s guidance and overall supervision of the Head of the RCO, the selected consultant will be responsible for writing the Bahrain UNCT Country Results Report for 2023. As indicated in the UN Country Results Report Guidelines for UN Country Teams, the writing task of the UNCT Results Report will entail, but not limited to, the following: – Write and finalize draft UN Country Result Report for final clearance of UNCT and RC in compliance with UN Country Results Report Guidelines. – Ensure that all content is free of spelling mistakes and professionally and logically presented, removing redundant content. – Review, verify, and edit to ensure the use of gender and culturally-sensitive language in the document.
Qualifications/special skills
Advanced University Degree (Master’s or equivalent) in social sciences (economics, political science, international development, public or business administration), human rights or a related field is required. A minimum of 10 years of professional work experience in visioning and strategic planning, including sustainable development strategies and programmes through multi-stakeholder processes is required. Excellent writing and analytical formulation skills with demonstrated experience in preparing strategic and programming documents or similar analytical documents is required. Strong comprehension of the sustainable development concept and knowledge of the 2030 Agenda and the SDGs is desirable. Extensive experience in Results-Based Management principles, logic modelling /logical framework analysis, quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis, and participatory approaches is desirable. Strong experience in process facilitation and inclusive stakeholder engagement processes is desirable.
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat; and Arabic is a working language of ESCWA. For this position, fluency in English is required. Note: “Fluency” equals a rating of ‘fluent’ in all four areas (speak, read, write, and understand) and “Knowledge of” equals a rating of ‘confident’ in two of the four areas.
