JOB DESCRIPTION

The Education Officer SK is responsible, along with Education Officer #2 for the day-to-day implementation of Education activities in South Kordofan (SK)

General Responsibilities 

  1. Ensure adherence to NRC policies, tools, handbooks, guidelines, and donor requirements, with strict adherence to the Code of Conduct and Child Safeguarding Policies
  2. Implement delegated Education activities according to proposals, log frames, budgets and work plans, in line with donor requirements.
  3. Prepare periodic status reports and other documents as required by Supervisor or Management
  4. Ensure proper filing of documents
  5. Support the drafting or updating of Detailed Implementation Plan or Work Plan when requested
  6. Represent NRC and coordinate with local level Education stakeholders
  7. Promote the rights of refugees, IDPs, returnees and the host community in-line with SPHERE and INEE Minimum Standards
  8. Assist with capacity building activities
  9. Promote and share ideas for technical improvement
  10. Ensure projects target displacement-affected populations including vulnerable segments of said population
  11. Explore and assess new and better ways to assist in Education.

Specific Responsibilities 

  • Ensure technical quality in the field when implementing Education activities
  • Ensure that the South Kordofan Education Procurement Plan is updated, and educational inputs are distributed in a done in a timely manner, in line with NRC policies and procedures
  • Completion of Reconciliation of Deliverables documentation after distributions when requested
  • Contribute to baseline, endline, needs assessments, market assessments
  • Ensure accurate project documentation, including collection of data and tracking of progress on Output/Outcome indicators as part of NRC GORS system; utilize data to contribute to reports as requested by Supervisor or Management
  • Act as Focal Point within NRC SK Education team on Community Consultation and Engagement facilitating relationships with various stakeholders including school management, PTAs, community leaders, State and Locality Ministry of Education officials to ensure ownership of local infrastructures and active participation in the education program
  • Provide support in the sub-component of the Education Cannot Wait project: Vocational training skills for Out of School students
  • Any other tasks relevant to the position, as requested by Supervisor.

Generic professional competencies for this position:

  • Experience working in a humanitarian or early recovery context
  • Experience working in complex and volatiles contexts like the Kordofan.
  • Solid computer skills, including MS Word and Excel
  • Ability to work diligently both independently and in a team setting
  • Willingness to travel regularly to the field including to remote locations when requested
  • Fluency in Arabic (written and verbal) & good working English language skills required.

Context related skills, knowledge and experience

  • Two years relevant experience in implementation of education or similar projects in a humanitarian/recovery context.
  • Knowledge of the context in South Kordofan or the Kordofan’s preferred.
  • Experience with youth programming and linkages to livelihoods is an asset but not essential.
  • Experience liaising with local and community stakeholders preferred
  • Field level experience with UN or INGO preferred
  • Understanding of SPHERE and INEE Minimum Standards required
  • Candidates with a university and/or advanced degree preferred; significant experience in the field of Education, PSS or Child Protection considered in lieu.
