The Unit for Technology and Artificial Intelligence in Education under the Future of Learning and Innovation Team, Education Sector, is responsible for supporting Member States’ efforts to leverage technological innovation to support the achievement of SDG 4 and enable the futures of learning. The main areas of work of the Unit include national ICT in education policies, AI and education, open educational resources (OER) and mobile learning, as well as steering the use of emerging technology as a public good for education.

Technological innovation in education is one of the thematic priorities of the Education Sector under the 41 C/4 Medium-Term Strategy (2022-2029) and the 41 C/5 Programme and Budget (2022-2025). The Unit is responsible for coordinating the implementation of project activities that will contribute to the achievement of the relevant expected output of the 41 C/4 and 41 C/5 on leveraging technological and digital innovations to ensure more inclusive, effective and relevant learning. The activities will also be implemented through promoting digital public goods for education, developing AI competencies, and leveraging data and AI tools for learning.

Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General for Education (ADG/ED), the guidance of the Director of the Future of Learning and Innovation Team (ED/FLI) and the direct supervision of the Chief of Unit for Technology and AI in Education (ED/FLI/ICT), the incumbent will support the overall coordination, implementation and monitoring of programmes and activities on AI and education and digital competencies. More specifically, the incumbent will carry out the following tasks and responsibilities:

Long Description

Implementation of the AI and the futures of learning project:

  • Support the implementation of the project and monitor project activities and budget.
  • Coordinate with the groups of experts and ensure the liaison with all stakeholders involved in the project, including from UNESCO ED sector, UNESCO Institutes, and other partners.
  • Organize meetings and working group sessions.
  • Prepare background documents, concept notes, call for think pieces, proposals and other knowledge products related to the three strands of work of the project.
  • Update the AI and the futures of learning project webpages and help advocate for the project through social media.
  • Coordinate the internal and external peer review process and follow-up on the presentation of the AI competency frameworks reports to the Publication Board.

Long Description

Implementation of the South-South cooperation project “Digital Competencies for Teachers in Member States of G77 + China”:

  • Support the implementation of the project and monitor project activities and budget.
  • Contribute to the overall organization of a series of sub-regional seminars by drafting the workplan, concept notes, programme/agenda.
  • Assist in the preparation of advocacy materials including news and press releases, brochures, newsletters and other communication related materials.
  • Prepare monitoring progress report for the G77+China group.

Long Description

Organization of the International AI and Education Forum and Digital Learning Week 2024:

  • Contribute to the overall organization of the events by providing logistical and content support, e.g. drafting concept notes, programme/agenda, call for proposals and other relevant documents, including communication and visibility materials.
  • Ensure liaison with speakers for their smooth participation and preparation for their session, and liaison with general participants.
  • Provide support to fund raising efforts for Digital learning Week.
  • Coordinate with other division and sectors, as well as external partners, involved in the organization of the event.

  • Advanced university degree (Master or equivalent and above) in the field of education, educational technology, social science, political science, or related fields.

Work Experience

  • At least two years of relevant working experience in areas related to education, of which at least one year acquired at international level.
  • Experience in the implementation, evaluation and advocacy of programmes and projects related to education, including administrative and financial matters, as well as coordinating with internal and external partners and networks.
  • Experience in planning, preparation and organization of workshops and meetings under the framework of education-related projects.

Skills and Competencies

  • Good writing skills and ability to draft clear and concise reports.
  • Experience in the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes/projects related to education, including administrative and financial matters.
  • Ability to conduct analytical study and prepare presentations on project implementation.
  • Ability to design instruments for the monitoring and evaluation of project activities.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with proven ability to maintain effective working relations within a multicultural environment with colleagues and staff at all levels within and outside the Organization.
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment and team cooperation.
  • Excellent knowledge of ICT and good knowledge in using social media and mobile applications.
  • Demonstrated capacity to manage a project and work under tight deadlines.


  • Excellent knowledge of English (written and spoken) and good knowledge of French.



  • Specific professional training and/or practical experiences in financial administration or project management

Work Experience

  • Experience with UNESCO and understanding of the organization, including its administrative procedures and financial process.
  • Specific professional and practical experience in ICTs for education.
  • Specific professional and practical experience in the context of African countries or SIDS.


  • Working knowledge of another UNESCO language (Arabic, Chinese, Russian or Spanish).


UNESCO’s salaries consist of a basic salary and other benefits which may include if applicable: 30 days annual leave, family allowance, medical insurance, pension plan etc.

The approximate annual starting salary for this post is 71, 053 US $.
