Duties and Responsibilities
United Nations Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI) is a United Nations entity established in 1968 to support countries worldwide in advancing justice, crime prevention, security and the rule of law in support of peace, human rights and sustainable development. UNICRI is mandated to assist intergovernmental, governmental, and non-governmental organizations in formulating and implementing improved policies in the field of crime prevention and criminal justice. UNICRI’ s goals are to: 1. advance understanding of crime-related problems; 2. foster just and efficient criminal justice systems; 3. support the respect of international instruments and other standards; 4. facilitate international law enforcement cooperation and judicial assistance. UNICRI CBRN Risk Mitigation and Security Governance Unit (CBRN Unit) deploys a wide range of tools in line with the UNICRI 2023–2026 Strategic Programme Framework and the Sustainable Development Goals, in particular Goal 9 on industry, innovation and infrastructure and Goal 16 for the promotion of peace, justice and strong institutions. UNICRI Unit is contributing to the implementation of the European Union Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) Risk Mitigation Centres of Excellence (EU CBRN CoE Initiative). The Initiative involves 64 Partner Countries and is led by the European Commission’s Service for Foreign Policy Instruments (FPI), in close coordination with the European External Action Service (EEAS). The aim of the Initiative is to mitigate risks and strengthen an all-hazards security governance in Partner Countries. The Initiative involves a wide range of CBRN risk mitigation activities, including needs and risk assessments, national and regional action plans, capacity building activities, legal framework reviews, tabletop and real-time (including cross-border) field exercises, inter-regional exchange of best practices and lessons learnt. UNICRI is also implementing programmes to support Member States’ capabilities in anticipating, assessing and mitigating CBRN threats with a specific focus on the role of intelligence gathering and analysis. Under the direct supervision of the Head of Unit, in close coordination with the teams of UNICRI supporting the implementation of the CBRN Unit, the individual contractor will support the CBRN Unit, and shall be responsible for administrative support to help ensuring the smooth functioning of the relevant projects and programmes. Specifically, the individual contractor will carry out the following tasks: · Provide financial support in analyzing expenditures, drafting financial reports, reviewing status of relevant expenditures and compares with approved budget; · Provide administrative and logistics support in organization of meetings, workshops, conferences and other similar international events; · Keep contacts with participants, experts and relevant stakeholders; · Perform general administrative tasks (e.g. reviewing IOVs, maintaining contacts with UNDP, preparing arrangements for meetings and other events, drafting Terms of Reference for HR and procurement actions); · Monitor the processes and the schedules related to the projects’ outputs and tasks; assist in the verification of receipt and accuracy of requisite documents, approvals, and signatures to ensure compliance with relevant financial and budget requirements; · Respond or draft responses to routine correspondence and other communications; use standard word processing package and excel to produce a wide variety of large, complex documents and reports; · Maintain files (both paper and electronic) and databases; · Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications/special skills
High school diploma is required. At least 3 years of experience in administrative support in implementation of projects and programmes, including experience in financial and budget analysis and in administrative and logistics support of organization of international events, is required. Working experience within United Nations or international organizations is highly desirable.
Languages
Fluency in oral and written English is required; knowledge of Italian is desirable. Knowledge of other UN languages is desirable.

This position is subject to local recruitment. Applicants for this position must be authorized to work in the designated country (Italy). Eligible applicants selected from outside the duty station are responsible for any expenses in connection with their relocation to the duty station.
