We are seeking to fill the position of Logistics Officer (System) NOA, based in the UNHRD Brindisi Hub.

Italian Residents holding a valid passport and/or identity card, and Reside within commuting distance (100-kilometer radius or distance that can be covered within 1.5 hours by car or public transport under average conditions of traffic, weather, and roads) to the office location at the duty station (World Food Programme, UNHRD Brindisi, Ex SS 16 Km 906.9, 72100 Brindisi, Italy), or be willing to relocate to reside within commuting distance to the location of the office at your own cost before taking up the assignment.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

Global hunger has reached alarming levels in 2022, and WFP, the Nobel Peace Prize winner in 2020, remains dedicated and committed to address this global food crisis. The United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot (UNHRD) is a network of strategically located hubs established to support humanitarian organizations and the broader international community in responding to emergencies and crises. UNHRD provides essential services such as storage, easy access to critical supplies, and technical assistance.

As the Logistics Officer NOA (Systems), you will oversee systems and provide expertise in WINGS (Warehouse and Inventory Management System) within UNHRD operations. Your role encompasses process review, optimization, and technical oversight, along with drafting SOPs and guidelines and supporting technical capacity building within the logistics team.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES (not all-inclusive, nor exhaustive)

  1. Manage a team to ensure smooth operations and support capacity strengthening efforts.
  2. Contribute to the implementation of UNHRD service provision and operations, to ensure a timely, cost-effective and integrated approach with core activities and strategic plans across the hubs.
  3. Conduct process reviews and optimization efforts to enhance operational efficiency.
  4. Collaborate with stakeholders to align and develop guidelines for technical processes, in line with organizational objectives.
  5. Provide training and capacity building support on WINGS and related systems.
  6. Maintain accurate documentation and prepare reports on system performance and improvements.
  7. Contribute to emergency logistics preparedness activities and support response plans.
  8. Identify, resolve, and provide recommendations on specialized queries to ensure timely resolution.
  9. Collect and analyze data, highlighting opportunities for supply chain improvement.
  10. Support UNHRD projects and operational activities, ensuring compliance and cost-effectiveness and help to enhance efficiencies and overall performance.
  11. Act as Process Expert and Risk Owner for UNHRD Special Logistics Business and Inventory Solution.
  12. Provide specialized support for UNHRD logistics operations, particularly in customs matters.
  13. Other duties as required.

ACCOUNTABILITIES STANDARD MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

Education: University degree in Transport Economics, Supply Chain, Logistics, engineering, Business Management, or first level university degree with years of experience in the functional area

Language: Proficiency in English (Level C) and in Italian (level C) and knowledge of other UN languages is an asset

Experience: Minimum 1 year of professional experience, preferably in logistics management in international organizations or humanitarian contexts

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to collect and analyze data to drive improvements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Proficiency in using relevant software and tools for supply chain management, such as SAP ERP and warehouse management systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of international customs regulations and experience in customs clearance procedures is an asset.
  • Demonstrated management abilities, with experience in supervising and training junior staff members.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to ensure compliance with organizational standards and procedures.
  • Commitment to humanitarian principles and the mission of the United Nations.
