WWF’s diversity-focused internship program, BRIDGE, aims to recruit professionals early in their careers who bring fresh thinking and innovation to the environmental and conservation sector and are well positioned to develop into the next generation of leaders. Our mission is to increase exposure of students from underrepresented populations to conservation and environmental careers, provide professional development opportunities, reduce the barriers to attracting a diverse pool of internship candidates, and develop a pipeline for future WWF hires from underrepresented populations.

Position Summary

WWF Impact provides catalytic capital to early-stage companies operating within the food system to accelerate and advance WWF’s ambitious conservation goals. We have three distinct strategies that target aquaculture, food circularity, and regenerative agriculture. The Impact Investing Graduate intern will support refinement of impact metrics and dive deep into a few key components of our investment theses. This intern will play a role in shaping WWF Impact’s metrics dashboard and contribute to thought leadership across the portfolio. Additionally, the intern will contribute to deal screening, diligence, and daily fund operations. This position affords the opportunity to work across both our interdisciplinary investment team and the broader WWF network in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.

• Inform the design of company impact evaluation and tracking tools to help with company screening and portfolio management.
• Conduct research and contribute opinions on best practices in impact evaluation using internal and external resources.
• Develop and present self-guided research on industry trends.
• Quickly learn and remain updated on venture capital, impact investing, agriculture, food circularity, and aquaculture topics.
• Contribute to pipeline tracking and fund management procedures.
• Aid in the evaluation and screening of potential investments.

Minimum Requirements:

• Pursuing a graduate program. Must be an actively enrolled student and not received degree at time of internship start date (June 17, 2024).
• An interest in agriculture, aquaculture, or food circularity in addition to impact investing.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Willingness to learn and pick up new concepts and trends quickly.
• Familiarity with Microsoft office.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in aquaculture, food circularity, or agriculture is a plus
• Background in finance, accounting, or venture capital

Learning Outcomes

• Deeper understanding of emerging technologies in aquaculture, food circularity, and regenerative agriculture markets.
• Experience conducting interviews with experts in the aquaculture, food circularity, and agriculture fields, and with early-stage founders.
• Deeper proficiency in using tools such as AirTable, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft PowerPoint.
• Knowledge of the venture capital process from deal screening to close.
• Experience sharing research findings verbally in a public setting.

WWF interns will be provided a set of professional development opportunities, aimed at increasing their exposure to conservation and sustainability careers. This includes:

• Development discussions with their manager;
• Up to two online courses through Cornell University’s eCornell program;
• Speed mentoring with different WWF teams;
• Opportunity to present their work to intern peers and WWF staff;

• Session on resume and interviewing best practices.

Interns will also have access to an array of networking opportunities. This includes meetings with WWF’s CEO, the senior management team, Employee Resource Groups, and representatives from other departments.

Location:

US-DC-Washington OR US Remote – WWF employs interns in all states with the exception of: Alabama, Hawaii, Idaho, Kentucky, Louisiana, Nevada, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Wyoming.

Compensation:

Paid – $21 per hour (full-time, 35 hours per week)
