JOB DESCRIPTION

Org. Setting and Reporting
The position is within the Liquidation Entity of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), located in Gao. The Information Systems Assistant is responsible for providing technical support to the Liquidation Team at the Gao Office. The incumbent will report directly to the ICT Coordinator in Gao or designated official of FTS, on all matters relating to the proper delivery of services.
Responsibilities
Within delegated authority, the Information Systems Assistant will be responsible for the following duties: Network Administration: • Assist to install, administer, and maintain the Mission’s local and wide area networks (LANs/WANs). • Assist in the preparation of plans for the realization of specific networks in the Mission. • Support with the establishment of local networks, including the installation of conduits, sockets and cables, the installation and configuration of hubs, switches, modems, routers, firewalls, Wireless Controllers, Access Points, workstations, and network printers. • Provide support to network users and troubleshoot LAN/WAN issues. • Support repair and update customers’ software and workstations and peripherals (desktops, laptops, printers, and other peripherals). • Provide support for the distribution of new computers, including operating system installation, cloning of hard drives, installation of antivirus and any other software and peripherals. • Assist with monitoring the performance of the Mission’s LAN and WAN networks and resolve network issues, including those related to cables and other connecting devices. • Assist in the installation and configuration of computer equipment if necessary. • Assist with the installation of servers and their operating system, including Microsoft Exchange messaging. • Assist in the installation of switches and routers. • Assist in identifying problems and make recommendations to address them. • Assist in preparing instructions for troubleshooting common hardware and software issues. • Assist clients in the use of standard office software in use at the United Nations. Service Desk/Systems support: • Support client-oriented IT and application support to MINUSMA and NON MINUSMA personnel from within the Gao Service Desk when required, physical and remote support may also be required. • Provide support for a full range of technical support and team supervision with respect to server operations and administration; Distribute work among team members and monitor progress. provide guidance for new or lower grade colleagues. • Assist with installation, configuration, testing and deployment of server system hardware and software to include LAN infrastructure, operating systems (Unix, Linux, Mac OS), email, Lotus Notes, Exchange mail, Citrix, database systems, web development software, firewall systems, DNS, DHCP, NFS, CIFS/SMB, mail relay, various network services security software and server systems. • Support administration, operation, technical support, and monitoring of server systems; Engages in solving complex problems that server systems may have. • Assist to coordinate with other units of the service and other logistics support elements of the Mission to maintain optimal 24/7 maintenance of operating systems and server. • Support the identification of the needs of new systems or reformatting of existing systems. • Provide support to user requests and assist in the deployment/configuration of systems to ensure compliance with infrastructure standards; Perform disaster/continuity of service (DR/BC) recovery and back up services following the standard procedures. Support in application management: • Support and lead a team in the planning, specification, design, development, and assistance for the installation of computer application systems and programs in accordance with the standards established by the United Nations for computer technologies, programming languages and tools. • Support as focal point for the coordination, control, and dispatch of IT application systems for the development of projects requiring close collaboration with organizational units in the initiation of applications. • Assist to prepare standard terms of reference; process and monitor administrative actions and solve problems related to the execution of projects, such as organization and participation in training, acquisition of equipment and services etc. • Assist to plan, implement, and maintain application security control, programs, and procedures; Conduct ongoing reviews with users and developers. • Provide support in retrieving application and system information and work continuity. • Support to prepare technical user guides for the deployment of computer application systems, training materials and deliver technical presentations. • Assist to write correspondence and communications, including revisions to the work plan, as well as contributions from units for various periodic reports. • Perform any other tasks assigned by the supervisor. Other duties and responsibilities common to the specialties above include, but are not limited to: Providing general assistance across the various fields of ICT support services in the liquidation entity. Being part of cross-functional teams within FTS to assist with ICT related projects. Assists with the collection and analysis of data as well as preparation of data presentations and reports for information sharing, responding to queries, knowledge management, planning and decision making. Assists with visualizations and updating information material such as web pages or brochures.

Work Experience
A minimum of three (03) years of progressively responsible experience in Information Systems analysis, database installation and management and website development, systems administration and maintenance, software applications, hardware installation and related work is required. The minimum year of relevant experience is reduced to 1 year for candidates who possess a first-level university degree or higher. 1 year or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
Languages
French and English are the working languages of the UN Secretariat. For this post, fluency in French (both oral and written) is required. Knowledge of English is desirable.
