Mission and objectives

UNICEF in Turkiye works to protect the rights of children and adolescents in Turkey since 1951. UNICEF’s programme in Turkiye focuses on the needs of the most vulnerable children in the areas of education, child protection, health care, social policy, adolescents and youth, in line with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Context

In order for UNICEF to be an effective advocate for diversity and inclusion, UNICEF itself needs embody a more representative and inclusive workplace, where UNICEF core values are the foundation for inclusive behaviors and actions. In this respect, UNICEF Türkiye is undertaking important steps to address broader gaps in the office’s diversity by embarking on expanded and deliberate efforts to raise staff awareness and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). These efforts will also consider wider outreach to underrepresented communities with a focus on persons with disabilities and plus one (considers factors such as race, ethnicity, language, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, and sex characteristics). By increasing the diversity of the workforce, UNICEF Türkiye aims is to build and enhance the inclusive culture that promotes and appreciates diverse thinking, learning, and reflection. Moreover, the country is currently facing a complex humanitarian situation, marked by the recent earthquake that has impacted 9.1 million people. Hence, these efforts are important to ensure the unique needs of the affected communities are also supported. Furthermore, given the increased level of disability due to injuries from the devasting earthquake in 2023, and UNICEF’s commitment to strengthen its disability inclusive programming — there is a need to deepen understanding on scale and context of disability prevalence, and opportunities to programme on both prevention and response. This assignment is reserved a candidate identifying as persons with disabilities and/or from under-represented groups.
