UNDP’s office in Trinidad and Tobago is a Multi-Country Office (MCO) and covers the islands of Trinidad and Tobago, Aruba, Curaçao and Sint Maarten and is led by the Resident Representative. The MCO has substantive programmatic portfolios which are managed by the Assistant Resident Representative (Programme) and an Operations Unit managed by the Operations Manager.

The Driver functions under the direct supervision of the Resident Representative and with guidance from the Operations Manager (or his/her designate) and the Executive Associate. He/She provides reliable and safe driving services to the Resident Representative ensuring the highest standards of discretion and integrity, sense of responsibility, excellent knowledge of protocol and security issues. He/She also provides driving services to the Operations and Programme personnel in the MCO, and provides basic clerical support to the Operations Unit.

The Driver must demonstrate a client-oriented approach, courtesy, tact and ability to work with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

This position will support primarily the functioning of the Office of the Resident Representative with particular focus on safety, reliability, discretion, adherence to protocol and promoting representation. This position will also support the Programme and Operations Units in the discharge of their daily functions including, but not limited to, providing driving support to meetings, administrative functions and banking.

Duties and Responsibilities
Summary of Key Functions:
  • Provision of reliable and secure driving services
  • Provision of administrative and logistical support
  • Proper use of vehicles
  • Day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle(s)
  • Provides support to the maintenance of the MCO Registry

1)      Ensures provision of reliable and secure driving and courier services

  • driving office vehicle(s) for the transport of authorized personnel
  • delivery and collection of mail, documents, packages and other items
2)     Ensures cost-savings through proper use of vehicle 
  • through accurate maintenance of daily vehicle logs, provision of inputs to preparation of the vehicle maintenance plans and reports
 3)     Ensures proper day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicles
  • through timely minor repairs, arrangements for major repairs, timely changes of oil, check of tyres, brakes, car washing, etc
  • ensures timely top-up of fuel in accordance with security requirements
4)      Ensures availability of all the required documents/supplies
  • including vehicle insurance, vehicle logs, office directory, map of the city/country, first aid kit, necessary spare parts
5) Ensures that all immediate actions required by rules and regulations are taken in case of involvement in accidents
6) Ensures the collection, distribution, and maintenance of documents
  • checking the MCO eRegistry and forwarding email communication(s) to respective MCO personnel; checking the post office mailbox daily to collect and distribute mail and/or packages addressed to MCO personnel
7) Provides administrative and logistical support, focusing on achievement of the following results:
  • Supporting the maintenance of UN House building, car park and storages areas
  • Supporting the MCO Finance team in banking services and payment of bills
  • Supporting the MCO in micro-purchasing related services under the Institutional Budget
  • Managing the log for conference rooms for Agencies at UN House
  • Supporting the processing of tax exemption documents for customs clearance of shipments for the MCO and other Agencies
  • Ensuring the photocopying and binding of documents for MCO use and/or MCO-led meetings by efficiently responding to requests to photocopy or bind documents from MCO personnel and accurately executing instructions given
  • Maintains inventory records for expendable items; storage and distribution of stationery
The Driver performs other duties within their functional profile as deemed necessary for the efficient functioning of the MCO and the Organisation.

Required Skills and Experience
Education:
  • Completion of Secondary Education
  • Valid Driver’s License
Experience:
  • Minimum of 2 years work experience as a driver with a safe driving record
  • Basic computer skills including the use of e-mail
  • Demonstrated good knowledge of driving rules and regulations
  • Experience as a driver with UN or international organization is an asset
  • Experience in driving various types of vehicles is an advantage (manual, automatic, electric)
  • Mechanical skills and minor vehicle repair and troubleshooting are an advantage
  • Experience in providing clerical support

Required Language:

  • Fluency in written and spoken English
