About this position

TechLab is the Emerging Technologies Laboratory of the ITE department of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). TechLab serves to accelerate the adoption of emerging technologies in areas that can have a positive impact on the development of Latin America and the Caribbean through exploration, experimentation, and awareness of these new technologies.

TechLab and the IDB Office in Trinidad and Tobago are looking for a consultant with proven experience in software development and data analysis, who provides added value to the organization and our clients.

You will work directly with the IDB Country Office in Trinidad and Tobago and remotely with the TechLab Team in HQ researching and developing proofs of concept and prototypes with emerging technologies, identifying opportunities in which these can be applied to development projects in the region.

What you’ll do:

  • Analyze business problems, gather requirements, and design solutions in which technology can assist.
  • Monitor advances in AI technologies and platforms.
  • Enable the IDB Office in Trinidad to become a Technolgy Observatory .
  • Develop a roadmap for integrating emergent technologies into existing systems.
  • Manage and schedule the workflow of projects inside the TechLab CTT collaboration space.
  • Deploy tools and technologies that will permit the building of Digital Twins to bridge the digital and physical worlds.
  • Maintain, monitor, and configure Cloud platforms like Azure and AWS.
  • Research, learn and apply new technologies sharing your results with the organization.
  • Coordinate visits to regional TechLab in Trinidad and Tobago and provide configuration. and maintenance to the technology equipment within the laboratory.
  • Provide support in the development of Proofs of Concept and Prototypes.
  • Assist with writing of articles and papers on emerging technologies and their applications.
  • Work with Cross Functional Project teams to develop and deliver training programs to enhance capacity in utilizing and managing emergent technologies.
  • Coordinate activities as part of Country Office Innovation Group in the DX-Yard (Digital Transformation Space).
  • Build consensus and make recommendations on the adoption of emergent technologies

What you’ll need:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent advanced degree) in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field relevant to the responsibilities of the role. Master’s degree is a plus.
  • Experience: At least 2-5 years of relevant professional experience in full stack software development.
  • Languages: Proficiency in English.

Key skills:

Technical Skills:

  • Strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle, system architecture and Agile/Scrum methodology
  • Experience using AWS and Azure clouds to create solutions that leverage cloud services.
  • Experience developing applications with languages like Python, C# and Web Dev frameworks like React or Angular.
  • Experience with relational and non-relational databases.
  • Experience writing technical notes, papers, or articles.
  • Experience with Data Analysis and Machine Learning is a plus.
  • Experience in Cybersecurity is a plus.
  • Experience in emergent technologies and their application in various sectors.

Requirements:

  • Citizenship: You are either a citizen of Trinidad and Tobago or a citizen of one of our 48-member countries with residency or legal permit to work in Trinidad and Tobago.
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

Type of contract and duration:

  • Type of contract: National Consultant Full-Time.
  • Length of contract: 12 months.
  • Work Location: On site.
