Audit Manager

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) is hiring an Audit Manager to join our Internal Audit team.

This role is based in Basel, Switzerland however, thanks to our status as an international organization, we can hire globally and welcome applications from candidates of all nationalities and located anywhere in the world. Relocation support is available for the successful candidate and their dependent family members.

Purpose of the job:

Our mission is to support central banks’ pursuit of monetary and financial stability through international cooperation, and to act as a bank for central banks.

You will contribute to this mission by:

  • Performing audit activities to contribute to the Internal Audit strategy implementation by evaluating and improving the effectiveness of risk management, internal controls, and governance processes.
  • Providing ongoing support to the Internal Audit management and Senior Audit Managers in performing assigned audits and projects or improvement initiatives.

Principal Accountabilities:

  • Perform internal audits in line with the audit plan and at the ad hoc request of Internal Audit management and/or the Bank’s Management
  • Provide support as an active team member to Senior Audit Managers in the performance of ongoing audit activities. –
  • Perform well-defined aspects of large/complex audits as required and as assigned and with access to guidance from senior audit colleagues.
  • If required, lead audits assigned by the Head of Internal Audit. Such audits are normally specific audits with a clearly defined scope and with well-defined business impact.
  • Provide ongoing support to other team members and to Internal Audit management as required and as part of the Internal Audit team. –
  • Participate in both bank wide and unit wide initiatives, as appropriate.
  • According to the audit plan and assigned audit responsibilities during the year, contribute to ensuring that the organization’s risk management, internal controls and governance processes are adequate and functional. Propose observations and recommendations to Internal Audit management as required on assigned or supported audits.
  • Participate when required in the assessment of the security and control aspects of new projects and in the evaluation of projects.
  • Participate when required in international audit groups or task forces related to the audit function and according to the level of functional expertise required.

Qualifications, skills, and experience:

  • University degree in finance, accounting, or a suitably related field.
  • At least five years of professional experience in auditing in financial services.
  • Good knowledge of risk management, control, and governance processes in financial services.
  • Professional certification(s) such as CIA, CPA or CISA preferred.
  • Good knowledge of financial products, risk measurement, treasury and asset management processes would be a plus.
  • Good knowledge of data analytics and automated analysis of data would be a plus.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, good team worker, personal initiative, multicultural sensitivity, and gravitas.
  • Excellent oral and written English skills are essential.
