JOB DESCRIPTION

Post of Duty: Remote.

IDB Lab is the innovation lab and venture arm of the Inter-American Development Bank Group. It mobilizes financing, knowledge, and connections to support entrepreneurs to catalyze innovation that can drive inclusion in Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC). About this position:

IDB Lab is looking for a dynamic and client-oriented individual to help with the analyses of equity investments in tech start-ups of its investment portfolio, as part of its Investment Unit team.

The Investment Team at IDB Lab is the unit responsible for originating, structuring and managing the portfolio of reimbursable financing instruments from direct investments in early-stage companies with high impact and high growth models to investments in venture capital (VC) funds, for which IDB Lab has been an instrumental anchor investor helping to shape the VC industry in LAC. IDB Lab has been also using debt instruments to support innovative SMEs. IDB Lab also leverages third-party financing to achieve its developmental goals, including environment and climate-oriented funds aligned with its strategies.

 

 

What you’ll do:

  • Support the Investment team, working closely with the investment officers in the assessment of investment opportunities in high-impact and high-performance startups, including participating in due diligence, financial modelling and valuation analyses, market and exit analyses, among others.
  • Prepare investment memorandum as well as other operational and strategic documents related to IDB Lab’s equity investments in start-ups.
  • Create decks and other materials to support investor relations and reporting, fundraising, and business development opportunities.
  • Support the supervision of positions within the IDB Lab’s financial portfolio, particularly the direct equity investments in tech start-ups, adding value to foster these firms’ impact and growth.
  • Provide input to IDB Lab’s direct equity investments thesis to achieve development objectives (impact, innovation), while also generating expected financial returns.
  • Provide support and elaborate reports on IDB Lab’s portfolio of operations in Brazil whenever required and participate, in meetings required by the Country Office in Brazil, to share IDB Lab’s INV’s perspective.

  • Second deliverable: Report of activities, including the achieved indicators (to be agreed on the workplan) and status of activities and tasks performed.
  • Third deliverable: Mid-term report of activities and reviewed workplan, if applicable.
  • Fourth deliverable: Report of activities, including the achieved indicators (to be agreed on the workplan) and status of activities and tasks performed.
  • Fifth deliverable: Report of activities, including the achieved indicators (to be agreed on the workplan) and status of activities and tasks performed.
  • Sixth deliverable: Final report of activities.

The estimated budget for the consultancy includes the consultant fees. Travel costs will be paid separately once approved.

What you’ll need:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent (in areas related to Finance, Business, or related field). CFA will be highly valued.
  • Experience: At least two years of relevant professional experience, including experience in financial transactions, preferably venture capital, private equity or investment banking, with relevant transactional track record (including financial modeling, valuation analysis, market analysis and exit analysis). Experience in Latin America and the Caribbean will be highly valued.Work experience in top-tier startups, venture capital and private equity funds, or M&A, with LAC exposure, is a strong plus.
  • Languages: Proficiency in English and Portuguese required

Key skills:

  • Excellent financial expertise in the appraisal, due diligence, and supervision of financial investments, particularly tech and impactful investments fields.
  • Ability to supervise and assess and value startups and investment proposals.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.

 

Requirements:

  • Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries.
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.
