Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international humanitarian organization providing medical care to people affected by conflict, epidemics, disasters, or exclusion from health care in over 70 countries. We were formed in France in 1971 as an association by a group of doctors and journalists to go to emergency situations and to treat patients with dignity while bearing witness independently of geopolitical boundaries. MSF is now a global movement of more than 25 MSF organizations, working in over 70 countries. Role Overview

Reporting to the Associate Director of Donor Services & Gift Processing, the Donor Services Manager assists in coordinating MSF’s donor services activities, vendors and staff, ensuring donors receive best in class service.

Department Accountabilities

Key Account Management

Take overall responsibility for designing, developing and delivering the organization’s account management strategy. May also personally manage a few relationships with the most strategic donors.

 

Donor Development

Pursue strategic opportunities in coherence with MSF-USA´s strategy, that create long-term value for the movement by cultivating partnerships or identifying and develop new geographies, markets or donors for its mission.

 

Donor Relationship Development

Build trust and loyalty with potential donors. At the simplest level, update donors on activities. At a more complex level, build long-term relationships with donors, especially large corporations or foundations.

 

Brand Positioning

Develop brand positioning based on the brand strategy and implement brand plans.

Roles Specific Outcomes

Donor Relationship Management

Answer calls, emails, and mail inquiries to allocated donors and prospective donors to maintain and strengthen existing relationships. Act as a first point of contact for resolving customer queries and complaints.

Data Management

Manage basic aspects of the data management system with guidance from senior colleagues. This includes being responsible for developing or operating basic elements of the data management systems to deliver prescribed outcomes.

Internal Client Relationship Management

Build effective working relationships within the internal client organization and contribute to the management of the partnering relationship, delivering high-quality professional services within established routines or as part of an agreed project.

Administration

Produce, update and provide best practice support on a wide range of MS documents, databases and other departmental systems to support the work of more senior colleagues.

Performance Management

Manage and report on the performance of the function / business area; set appropriate performance objectives for direct reports and hold them accountable for achieving these; take appropriate corrective action where necessary to ensure the achievement of annual business objectives.

Desired Qualifications & Experience

  • Min. 6 years relevant experience working in a customer service program which may include call center experience, preferably in a non-profit environment, plus
  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proven ability to manage staff and vendors.
  • Strong interpersonal and written and oral communications skills including ability to:
    • effectively present information to visitors, vendors, donors, and other employees of the organization
    • write specialized correspondence and routine reports
    • handle angry or difficult donors with discretion and judgment
  • Strong computer literacy, including ability to use word processing, spreadsheet and database software, and to learn new Windows-based programs
  • Ability to handle a large volume of work and support staff in their work in a stressful environment.
  • Outstanding time management and organizational skills including ability to prioritize ongoing vs. immediate needs appropriately.
  • Knowledge of MSF and MSF’s field projects strongly preferred.

Compensation

$78,399 – $97,999 (based upon experience)
