We are inspired by and associated with World Resources Institute (WRI), a global research organization. Currently over 250 researchers are working with WRI India in our offices at Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru.

Overview for WRI India
WRI India team supports the crucial front line work of the organization, they directly interact and work with donors, partners, government agencies, statutory bodies, trustees, vendors, and Consultants in fielding their inquiries, providing support at all the fronts and solving problems. So that the WRI programs can be implemented without any hurdles and the program staff and researchers can develop high quality research documents, plans and implement the programs at the field level.
WRI India team consists of various functions such as Budget and Finance, Grants and Contracts, Legal Counsel, Human Resource, IT and Facilities management. Each role comes under the purview of India and each function lead reports to the Director India and Director India report to the CEO of the Organization.
WRI India team strive for operational excellence across all functions starting with the recruitment, retention and management of WRI’s staff, our most important asset. We manage our endowment, the contributions entrusted to us, and our facilities in ways that are in line with our values and advance our mission. We maintain strict budgetary planning and financial controls to ensure that all contributions are managed in compliance with donors’ wishes.
About your role:
You will be reporting to the Director of Operations; as a Deputy Director, role will allow you to determine the identifiable building blocks of organization and mission success, which often outlives our tenure in the organization. The goal is to enable the organization to control our mission destiny. The Deputy Director takes pride in many strategic, analytical, transactional, and systems contributions, but three areas are most relevant to mission success. You will be in charge of all administrative responsibilities and communications and developing and monitoring progress towards meeting organizational goals and aligning with the organizational strategy.
How your day will unfold:
  • Work with the Operations Director to manage daily operations and administrative activities.
  • Manage bookkeeping and financial oversight, including the development of organisational budgets and expense monitoring, including statutory audits.
  • Create financial and other reports to submit to the Director and Board of Directors.
  • Implement all administrative strategies within the required timeframe and applicable regulatory Framework within the organisation.
  • Oversee the Legal and Grants and Contracts functions to streamline processes and guide the team concerning current Regulatory Requirements, focusing on FCRA.
  • Fulfill other duties assigned by the Director, Operations
  • Responsible for sustainable and dynamic business model that finds the necessary revenues and manages expenditures over the fiscal years.
  • Responsible for sustainable accounts, financial function and organizational infrastructure that will contribute to institute’s success.
  • Lead all the Donor, Statutory, and internal audits completions by managing end to end processes and consolidation of audited financials.
  • Mentor the team, manage work allocation, internal capacity building, performance evaluation and building a dynamic team dynamic. Guide larger cross-divisional teams (programs and responsibilities) outside of the direct span of control.
  • Ensure compliance under multiple statutory laws as applicable to the organizations, including disclosure requirements and reporting to the management.
  • Oversee the organisational and administrative policies and update policies relating to organisational governance and regulations.
  • Develop organisational reporting for the CEO and the board by coordinating with the program and all core functions, including development and HR, for reporting purposes and strengthening the organisation’s system and processes.
  • Support accounting, general ledger, and other operations responsibilities, ensuring that systems are in place to guarantee accuracy.
  • Advise on best accounting practices within the institute by publicizing standard operating procedures and generally serving as a reference point for all growth plans and projects.
  • Responsible to lead processes to prevent fraud and conflicts of interest; to promote accurate internal and external analysis.
  • Configure the accounting systems and reconciliations between different systems within the organization, work in collaboration with accounting team in India and Global to implement proper accounting and reporting structure for the organizations.
  • Participate in all internal planning regarding the institute’s proposed program expansion to ensure alignment of program, outreach, and training plans with financial projections.
  • Manage all monthly, quarterly and annual reports, to monitor, evaluate and optimise cash flow, variances, liquidity and risk management.
  • Keep up with new trends in the financial industry by attending conferences, participating in professional development, and sharing this information with the senior leadership team.
  • Build a top-tier internal Accounts team by recruiting, training and developing experienced accountants, analysts, consultants, auditors, tax planners and payroll staff.
  • Support operations to ascertain accounting and organizational needs and to recommend solutions to Institutional and financial problems.
  • Deal with high levels of ambiguity and work with team members to find practical solutions.
  • Oversee all legal documentation, including but limited to grant agreements with foreign and local donors, non-profit partners and processes, vendor contracts, MOUs and others.
Qualifications and requirements we seek:
  • Qualified CA or MBA in finance from a reputed Institute.
  • Excellent analytical, communication and presentation skills
  • Comfortable working in a multicultural and diverse global workplace.
  • Having a total of 12+ years of experience with over 7+ years in the Managerial or leadership role.
  • Have knowledge of ROC, Income Tax, FCRA, GST, FEMA, US GAAP and labor regulations.
  • Ability for shifting opportunities and priorities.
  • Experience in integrating IT/Systems to improve accounting productivity and accuracy.
  • Experience in a Non-Profit organization along with expertise of managing staff will be preferred.
  • Experience working with external auditors, compliance, and regulatory oversight.
  • Commitment to results; ‘can-do” mindset.
  • Strong work ethics, take ownership of tasks and demonstrate accountability.
  • Knowledge of Office Suite and Excel and familiarity with software like SAP, Salesforce, Deltek, Tally and other online accounting systems managed through multiple geographical area preferred.
Salary and Benefits: INR 3000000 – INR 3200000
Duration: 2 years as term hire (extendable based on performance and project requirements)
Location: Mumbai and Delhi, India
