RESEARCH INTERN – ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE (AI) USE FOR CLIMATE ACTION

POSITION SUMMARY

The Office of the Director General is looking for an Intern to support its activities in relation to GGGI’s pilot initiatives on data management, visualization, and the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI). Reporting to the Deputy Director, Climate Action and Inclusive Development Unit, the Intern provides support to successfully implement this initiative. S/he contributes to the effective, quality, and timely delivery of relevant tasks necessary for the successful fulfilling of the Initiative.

The intern primarily will support to explore the value of AI to accelerate Green Growth for member countries by reviewing and benchmarking existing applications of artificial intelligence for green growth and climate actions, supporting the mapping of donors with interest in funding projects related to the use of AI for NRM, climate change mitigation and adaptation.

The intern will also support the demonstration of the AI for GGGI by a set of visible use cases (pilots). That includes supporting the development of list of priorities and evaluation criteria and sharing with Task Force and finally for Management Team validation.

Under overall guidance of the Deputy Director, Climate Action and Inclusive Development Unit, the successful candidate will perform the following tasks, but not limited to:

  • Conduct literature review and benchmarking of existing applications of artificial intelligence for green growth and climate actions,
  • Assess and map stakeholders (resources partners (private/public) and implementing partners) to implement data use of AI for NRM, climate change mitigation and adaptation.
  • Analyze data and information, assess results and draw conclusions.
  • Support and participate in the organization of project events such as Community of Practice, conferences, workshops, and meetings with Management team.
  • Provide support on development of communication materials such as PowerPoint Presentations, factsheets and concept notes.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Be enrolled in a Bachelor’s (final year), master’s or PhD program prior to internship assignment, or a recent graduate within the last 12 months.
  • Educational background in computer science, information and communication technology, political science, international relations, environment, and other relevant disciplines.
  • Previous experience in relevant applications of artificial intelligence. The experience can include internships, volunteering, and unpaid assignments. The experience can be gained within a candidate’s country or outside desired.
  • Demonstrable interest and experience in researching and implementing robust AI / ML pipelines.
  • Demonstrates commitment and passion to green growth and knowledge of climate or environmental data through his/her academic studies.
  • Strong conceptual, analytical, writing and communications skills in an intercultural context desired.
  • Excellent written and spoken English, ability to speak additional language pertaining to GGGI’s countries would be a plus.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
